In my local Staples, you can still walk in and spend $99.99 for a GeForce 8400GS. I'll stick to Newegg...
I was just there today. You can still get that (PCI, NOT PCI-E), but it's $60 now. And that's the only gpu they sell.
Did you know you can buy things like pet bedding at newegg? I did a google product search on it and they showed up. However, I'll stick to the local pet store (not a big chain at all, they have 2 stores in the area), since it costs a ton for shipping otherwise.

I totally agree that rebates are a pain and my only real complaint with Newegg is that they include mail-in rebates in an item's displayed price. I hate that, because I don't factor in mail-in rebates when deciding whether or not to buy an item. It's just a little bonus if it ever comes back.
Yep I've been there. When I bought some $60 corsair ram, $20 rebate, they said it would take 8-10 weeks. Right on - it took 9. But it came.

Newegg is amazing. I lived on the Big Island for a few years and even with shipping charges (you can't get free shipping in Hawaii) they were less expensive than buying parts at the local computer store. I've had to RMA a few times, it's the nature of the stuff we work with, and their customer service has always been excellent. They've even waived restocking fees and paid shipping in some instances, like the latest when I got two DOA Velociraptors in a row. I've never had a problem with rebates but even if I did I wouldn't blame Newegg, that's the fault of the manufacturer and the rebate company they work with.
The only time I buy at the local computer store these days is when I need a two-bit cable or fan and I want it NOW.

I've never had any bad parts. I don't buy a ton of stuff though.

In my case, it is not because I do not like the local stores...it is more of a matter of not really having anything decent locally. Sorry, but Staples does not count as a "computer store" and it is about the best option that I have locally. I don't even really consider Best Buy a "computer store", not to mention that the closest is about an hour from me.
Dang... there's a Frys 20 minutes away from me, and their selection is pretty good. Best Buy is an "overpriced crappy computer store". Sure, my parents have bought Refridgerators and av equipment there, but I don't buy tech stuff there. It's overpriced and they have little. Where do you live anyway?
When I buy blank CDs and DVDs, I usually wait for a Frys sale (I got 100 DVD-Rs when they had them for $13, Maxell).
