Well I've heard lots of problems upgrading.
And I need a macos9 image.

I had an old "Wallstreet" Mac that I upgraded from OS8 to OS9 to OS X 10.2, and the only problem I ran into was the 10GB limit one of them had (I'm pretty sure it was 10.2); I just partitioned the drive and it worked fine. I ended up with a dual boot system in the end, before I gave the laptop to one of the neighbor's kids.
Regarding the "macos9 image", if you're referring to a downloadable image I don't think you can get one legally. I got my disks on eBay (OS9 and OS10) for a good price. I've got them listed back on eBay now since I no longer have any use for them. We've gone to a 100% Windows house and I've been cleaning some of my old stuff out.
