Based on advice from this forum, I never downloaded XP SP3. I'm still sitting here with SP2.

However, I was just made aware that Windows will no longer be supporting either SP2 or IE8.

So, after all of this time, should I be concerned about the original problems that everyone dealt with on SP3 or have they all been worked out? I would hope so.
Thanks,
Arthur

Hey Artthur, There is no reason not to get SP3. I have been running it since about a month after it came out on my eMachines, with no problems. IE8 will be around, at least for a while as IE9 will not be available for XP when it is released.

Hey Arthur !!

Yes, I agree that you should now be able to safely install SP3. Just make sure to Clean out the Junk Files
and Defrag the PC before doing any work on it. It would also be beneficial to Uninstall any programs
that are not used or needed to make room on your hard drive. The less clutter the better.

Finally, even though Windows will create a Restore Point while install SP3, I would recommend you
create one of your own Before you do the actual install.

Also, it is imperative that the PC be Clean of Any infections. Scan with MBAM (MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware)
before you install and After the Uninstall of unused programs, Cleaning and defragging . Update and Quick scan.

Download from here: The Free Version : Download@MajorGeeks You will be re-directed to MajorGeeks
where your download will begin.

Hey Arther. It says you've posted 4 times but only this one is found when I search. What topic suggested you not to update to Service Pack 3?

Hey AgentF !!

IF the question was before September 2009 (when we had the first upgrade ,change of forum) then,
it was probably lost in the transfer. I know some of mine were.

AgentF,
I'm guessing that my original post on SP3 was about 2 years ago, most likely when SP3 was not recommended due to a number of problems.

Hey Arthur, out of the gate, that thing was pretty much like all things Microsoft, best wait a bit until the bugs were worked out ( which I did. ). In all fairness to Microsoft though, it seems as though they did well with Windows 7. I have it installed in here as a Dual Boot with Vista and so far has been a pretty nice OS. That having been said, I have also been pretty happy with Vista as it has done well and not as slow as some have said. Anyway, SP3 is in good shape and as I said, I am running it in my XP machine.
