I am in the market for a DVD ripping software to start backing up my DVD/CD collection. With so many options out there I thought I would ask the people in the know for suggestions about the best option for the money.

Any recommendations?

I use Windows Media Player and haven't had any complaints (well, not since several versions ago, and those were minor).

There's no editing capabilities, but it sounds as if you don't need that.

I recommend ripping to 256 MP3s. Good sound and they'll play on anything.

No way. I think Lincoln is referring to music CDs only.

I've been using it for years and its the Best. Copy protected restrictions, LMAO. they update every month. Best $100 i ever spent.

You're right. I read DVD and thought CD. I've got to stop visiting the forums before my morning caffeine.

For my proper answer, see How Do I Get DVD Content Onto My PC?.

Sorry for my stupid mistake.

Hi ezcoolj,

Thanks for the info. I just spent over half hour trying to find this thread and couldn't find it. It's a good thing I decided to keep my email copy!

I've been thinking about getting anydvd and clonedvd for quite a while, but I wasn't sure they would work well, so I was glad to hear you've been using them and are happy with the results. So, I will keep that in mind when I have the $ to get them.

OBTW, the links you originally provided are not working any more, so I wonder what's going on in there...? or maybe one of the admins of this forum disabled the links? Hmmmmm <_<

Me again,

So, I have a couple of questions... I just checked the slysoft website and the 2 softwares we are talking about are offered as "subscriptions"... what's up with that? don't they sell the actual product? I much rather have an actual CD to install the thing from.

Thanks again for your help.

I use DVD Shrink, is a free and capable ripping tool that excels at, as the name would imply, shrinking DVDs.
