Just received an e-mail from Claim Administrator, Cho v. Seagate Technology (US) Holdings, Inc. with a link and a code for Seagate backup and recovery software as class-action compensation for Seagate overstating hard drive capacities. Sent in a form asking for monetary compensation but got this instead.

Without ragging about how only the lawyers get rich on this stuff and why I got the software instead of the money, am wondering if anyone has experience with this software and whether it's worth installing at all. Other issue not addressed at all in the e-mail is software support. If ANY software should be supported, it's backup software.

The package consists of a 557,338KB SafetyDrillCD.iso file and a 24,838KB SoftwareSuite_Windows_Installer.exe file. Am already using Acronis TI Home so am leery of messing with a good thing.

Hey klattu, that is the first I have even heard of that. I have a Seagate Barracuda 750 Gb in here, but it came as OEM, so I probably wouldn't have gotten any notice anyway. Haven't hard of whatever software they sent out either.

Well that is interesting. As I said, I have a Seagate Barracuda in here, but was OEM. I bought a second HDD which was a WD Caviar Black 1 TB.
