CAN ANYONE RECOMMEND THE BEST OR AT LEAST A VERY GOOD PHOTO EDITING SOFTWARE FOR A BEGINNER? I DONT HAVE ANY EXPERIENCE EDITING BUT AM INTERESTED IN LEARNING. I WOULD PREFER A PROGRAM VERY EASY TO LEARN AND USE. I WOULD PREFER IT BE A FREE PROGRAM BECAUSE I HONESTLY WILL NOT USE IT ALL THE TIME BUT MAYBE THE WIFE WILL.. LOL

ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED

THANKS

(BTW I WANNA RUN IT ON A DUAL CORE PROCESSOR, 4 GB RAM, WINDOW 7)

Hi 9th :)

Googles Picasa is free and does some nice light, to medium editing options. Take the tour on their home page and see if that might work.

For $50.00 Snagit is very nice.

To bad Adama isn't (hasn't posted) posting here like she used to, she is very talented in this area, and would probably have some very good options for you. I know this is one program she used, Sherif, which isn't as pricey as the Photoshop etc software, yet can do more complex editing than Picasa. She did myloginname and rgreens (4th post) siggies. Yet I'm sure others here will have me good suggestions too. :)

GIMP is a free program and has a lot of features.

SERIF is another brand (easier to use probably than GIMP). I use SERIF PHOTOPLUS at home and it's a very nice, simple program. I paid $40.00 for it.
"Windows did what? And you don't have the CD? Here...use this Linux CD for now...for FREE".
Google is a supplement to laziness.

GIMP is a graphic design program, not a photo editor, although it can do those tasks, too. GIMP is more like a free version of Adobe Photoshop and more advanced than what you're probably looking for. If you care to check it out, there are plenty of tutorials floating around the web.

Please don't use the term 'free software' when what you really mean is 'software available at zero cost'

Good point, as we tend to forget that the developer did put some blood, sweat, and tears into its development and maintenance, and thus wasn't (and isn't) free to them. ;) Yet that's just how we're used to saying it, so old habits may be hard to die.

But it isn't free software. It is software available at zero cost.

They do, but please don't assume that they are correct.

They mean "You don't have to pay for this software" instead of the true meaning of free which is "This software does not restrict you, it lets you keep your freedoms".

From http://www.gnu.org/p...hy/free-sw.html

“Free software” is a matter of liberty, not price. To understand the concept, you should think of “free” as in “free speech,” not as in “free beer.”

Free software is a matter of the users' freedom to run, copy, distribute, study, change and improve the software. More precisely, it means that the program's users have the four essential freedoms:

* The freedom to run the program, for any purpose (freedom 0).
* The freedom to study how the program works, and change it to make it do what you wish (freedom 1). Access to the source code is a precondition for this.
* The freedom to redistribute copies so you can help your neighbor (freedom 2).
* The freedom to distribute copies of your modified versions to others (freedom 3). By doing this you can give the whole community a chance to benefit from your changes. Access to the source code is a precondition for this.

It's understandable you don't know this, a lot of misinformation gets spread around.

And I believe that "Free Software" and "Freeware" are different, Avast is a Freeware, right?
people are just used to call free stuffs "Free", and as for software "Free Software", it's not always the correct way, but as the companies out there isn't so serious about this, why should they?
Your post was pretty informative, but take it easy on the easy people like us, ok?
By the way, are you a FSF member?

The meaning of 'freeware' isn't very clear but most people think of it as software you don't have to pay for. Because of the unclear meaning and the use of the word 'free' it's best to avoid it.

Free software is usually free but not always.

people are just used to call free stuffs "Free", and as for software "Free Software", it's not always the correct way, but as the companies out there isn't so serious about this, why should they?

The distinction must be made because as you say, it is correct. Free software is software that gives users certain freedoms, to say software is free when it is not is wrong.

Your post was pretty informative, but take it easy on the easy people like us, ok?
By the way, are you a FSF member?

Sorry If I come across in a bad way, I try to express myself in as few words as possible and as a result It makes me look a bit cold (which is not the case :D )

I am not a member of the FSF but I support everything they do and try to contribute when I can.

But it's not free to use software, which is what the OP had in mind. You can only use the free trial for 30 days after its first use.
