This reminds me of the days in the mid 90's when they directed to to technical support online--great when the computer wasn't connecting to the net or not booting at all. All you have to do is have an operating computer or tv w/ dvd to get help to set up the home entertainment system. If the people have problems hooking up their systems, I would wonder if this is really help or entertainment. My mother still can't use her VCR, answering machine, or VCR despite setting it up for her and printing out a 1., 2., 3.... guide for her. Why not just truely color code things like the keyboard & mouse PS2 plugs for those unfortunates that can't or won't try and decipher those wonderful instruction guides?

Some of those setup guides are pretty complicated and in depth to say the least. For each and every system there is a checklist of things to look for and when it comes to color coding, that'll never happen until some sort of standards are set for manufactures to follow. My initial installations are completed by using cable markers and labels to make troubleshooting simpler and moving and reinstalls a snap. Nothing worse that the rats nest behind the cabinet that is unmarked and poorly layed out.

I guess I've been one of the luckey ones. I've always had a knack for that audio- visual stuff, or at least I've never had any trouble with set up and stuff. I can't say I was the neatest either, but everything worked. I have plenty of coax strung around and under the house. I'm still trying to figure something out with all the excess wires from the PSU in this thing. I have a mini tower, and there is enough wire from the PSU for one of those Humongus cases. I have to agree that those tech writers that write the instructions leave a lot to be desired. Judging by the poor English in some of those things it is obvious that was off shored as well. Usually, if you know the connections, it isn't too hard to figure out. Just getting the right outs to the right ins. I haven't tried a home theater yet, but I see it coming. coastie65
