Hi there, I'm new to the forums and was wondering if any of you could help me out.I want to change my OS on my PC from Windows Media Center to XP, but am nervous about doing so. Does anyone know if there's a tutorial online on how to do it without hurting my system or losing my programs? Thanks!

Media Center is a version of XP, just with more bells and whistles.

What a minute, isn't Media Center one of the versions of XP? Do you mean going from Media Center to Pro or from Media Center to Home or Media Center to XP 64? There are a few possibilities here.Regards,JB

"Media Center" is merely a form of Windows XP with their Media Center functions added. If you don't want Media Center... just uninstall the Media Center aps.

I am a complete moron! What I meant to say was I'm switching from Media Center to Professional. Just a minor detail I left out.

Depending on how you install Professional I think the answer could be yes or no.If you just install Professional over top of Media Center then things may be OK. This does carry the potential for some of what Media Center installs to be left lingering around however. If you do a fresh install, e.g. format the hard drive, then you'll wipe out your data and have to re-install everything.Regards,JB

Yup, JB is right. You should be able to install professional right over Media Center (which is basically XP Home) and still retain all non-MC-specific settings. Programs should run, etc.'Course, "should" and "will" might be two different things. ;)
