I was preparing my Gateway Desktop to sell so I wanted to do a System Restore. I am running Windows ME. I now have on my screen: Missing Operating System what do I do? I tried over and over to install the OS, but the same thing keeps happening.

Is the PC booting from the install CD? I recommend trying to get a copy of w2k or XP instead of reinstalling MEI combined Windows CE, Windows ME and Windows NT and now I have Windows CEMENT.

what I have is Windows XP Upgrade version. Can this be done? If yes, is there anything special I would have to do? When turning on screen says missing operating system. When I put the Gateway reinstall disk in, the option of: go to windows or install windows is showing. If I choose go to windows, missing operating system is there, if I choose install windows it appears to start the procedure but shortly ejects the disk tells me to restart to finish installing windows, than a message appears of error..abort, retry or cancel.

Yes, that would work, just make sure to back up everything important.

It seems that your version of Windows is gone. You'll have to get a full copy of the OS you want. What I would do is try to connect your hard drive to another computer, to see if you can salvage your files. After that, use a full install disc to install windows.
