Internet Explorer 7.0 crashes like every half an hour, which freaks me out. Does anyone know how to make this program stable? :(

I've found it very stable. Can you give us a bit more info on your system? Have you downloaded all the patches for IE7 and your OS?

have you tried to uninstall - restart - reinstall?Don't forget to have a new installation file or alternate browser before you uninstall

When you say "crashes" what exactly happens? Does it lock up? Shut down? Does it happen at any particular website(s) or when you're doing any particular activity such as downloading images or viewing Flash videos? When was the last time you cleared your temporary internet files? In the meantime, may I suggest you try Firefox? IMO it's a better browser than even IE7.

A popup appears asking if I want to report the error. If I press any button, the program shuts. If I don't give a damn and continue to surf, it stands for about 10 min or so... but then it shuts off the program, of course. It happens more when I view videos, I think, like Myspace. And when I open several windows (in tabs or new windows), like it can't stand heavy loads.Clear temporary internet files? I didn't know I should ever do that. I've heard of Firefox.... but I'm afraid of taking a move, especially installing a new program. There are also codes that can only be read by IE...? I'm afraid.

I'm fairly new to Firefox myself, so I understand your concerns, but trust me - it's great. It will even import your IE Favorites for you and has plug-ins to block popups and ads. The ONLY website I use IE7 for anymore is Windows Update, because Microsoft refuses to allow downloads except in IE. Other than that, I have yet to find a website that doesn't work perfectly with Firefox. Given your problems with IE7, what have you got to lose? The Temporary Internet Files can get clogged up with old material, especially when you view large files like videos. Cleaning them out periodically can help browser performance.

Firefox is wonderful. When you install, you even have the option of transphering your bookmarks from internet explorer. IE is very holey and hacker friendly, a lot of people are switching over to the mozilla and other browsers. Its basically the same thing, except a bit better. FIrefox had tabs before IE took them in 7 which made for great convienence, built in spell checker (Im not sure if IE 7 does though lol, as the person above me I only use IE for windows update and other essential sites). As he mentioned as well better at blocking popup ads and all that good stuff. As far as there being some things that it can't see that IE can.. Well Microsoft tends to make a lot of there stuff only workable with there browser. Not completely take MSN groups for example. I can do all that stuff fine.. except if I wanted to use interactive controls of adding pictures with a click (non ie has different formats and it makes it harder to use) there are some boxes, very few, and some interactive things like say certain coding for scroll bars on myspace and other rather useless things that will not show up. Its nothing really though, as far as most things go you have the same extensions you can do the same things online and if you run into something you need then you can go on IE (yea I know its not working for future reference). Some of the extensions and features that ie let through are dangerous sometimes though like active X I think you can read about it in this months PC World.. or last I can't remember. Either way its pretty dangerous stuff for interactive features. Just try it out, you don't have much to lose :)sorry for the rambling lol

{size:18px}[/size]:D Hi : Have heard of problems with BOTH IE7 AND the latest Firefox ; "Temporary Internet Files" should be "deleted" daily. I have a Good & FREE program called "Traceless" that does that and other helpful "things" each time I reboot my computer. I continue to use IE6 without problems; recommend you uninstall IE7 and go back to IE6 .

So the choices are:- Try out Firefox but Myspace scroll bars may not show up. (not unimportant to me because I'm a daily Myspace user)- Go back to IE6And I must clear the temp internet files every day anyway. :unsure[quote:6c218e6472]Given your problems with IE7, what have you got to lose? [/quote:6c218e6472]The effort and time of my editing Myspace gets lost, and I need to reopen the windows I was refering t. ex. when I edit pages and am studying. That eats lots of time.

IMHO Firefox is defo better than IE.I have a myspace page and am able to make better use of css with it (when you move over pics and profile images they get lighter - IE users can't see that)Never had any probs with it as far as scrollbars either.I have a number of browsers such as Opera and even use the inbuilt one in mIRC from time to time to check my own web site developments and Firefox always displays things perfectly. From a design point of view I hate IE because it can take forever tweaking the tiny bits of code needed to show something correctly for the IE users. You may want to change the start page though when Firefox starts up as It will automatically load a frontpage with it's own Google page.. and as we all know, you can all sign up for the Google Adsense to enable people who use your Google search to click and then you get paid each time the user follows a sponsored link (the light blue ones right at the top!)..Just to add it's not harmful in anway whatsoever.Thats why it's free, they must be making a fortune with thousands of people downloading it daily and using that front page. Mind you, I see even Adobe nowadays attach the Google toolbar to their Acrobat Reader downloads.. nice.Shane.
