From Google's web site.Consumers are also still widely using Windows 98. Google reported that 29 percent of searches done in September 2006 came from machines running Windows 98, as compared with 38 percent from Windows XP-based PCs and 20 percent from Windows 2000 machines. There is a large percentage of us still using Win98 and Win98SE. PC Worldshould continue to support this OS. They could place it in the back of the magazine.I don't ever intend switching to XP or Vista for many years to come.

What do you mean by support though? That would be my question as if you are meaning that every utility that PC World makes should have a version that is supported in Win 98SE that is one thing while if you mean looking for stories about people still using Win 98SE that's another thing altogether. Or do you mean people having problems with a computer running Win 98SE should be able to call PC World and say, "fix this" and get help through to resolution?Regards,JB

Think about it this way...how many music distributors still make cassettes? Even DJs and Recording Studios use CDs now. It's all about evolution. Windows 98 was great, in its day. Unfortunately, those that choice to stay with 98 or 2000 will face a larger number of companies that do not support those OS anymore.

I think there's a real balance. Sure, not all old things go away, but how many articles in music magazines do you see about current tips and tricks to using vinyl and cassettes? We can't just pretend that everyone is always using the most current OS, but we can't continue to target the majority of our content to way older OSes because that would alienate the majority of our readers. As with most things, we try our best to hit the middle but realize that there are some people on either side that may feel left out.
