You might want to check out this list compiled of programs that are compatible right now. [url]http://www.iexbeta.com/wiki/index.php/WindowsVistaRTMSoftwareCompatibilityListI got my Vista upgrade but haven't installed it yet because a lot of my favorite software isn't compatible yet.

If you don't have any yet, stop by free at Trend Micro for a housecall scan, it finds and fixes for free any problems, and is very thorough. [url]http://housecall.trendmicro.com/Also, Spybot is great and free and updates automatically[url]http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.htmlAd aware basic is great, too.[url]http://www.lavasoftusa.com/_These are 3 great free programs. The latter two will update themselves, too. The first you have to vist their website regularly. I purchased System Suite 7 Professional at Walmart for 40 bucks, and it not only has a system mechanic, it also boasts a spyware cleaner, antivirus and firewall, and is great. It has all the utilities to clean and maintain your pc, as well as protect it. I've used it for 3 years now, and just upgrade very year, and it's always been effective. I use the other 3 occaisionally as back up. Hope it helps.

ok thanks for the infomation! (just wanted to double check though, that these are Vista ready....). i keep getting wonderful recommendations, but then they won't run with vista. i will check out the one at Walmart too, but i haven't seen any new programs saying they will operate on Vista yet. someone at dell told me not to install anything if it didn't say vista on the system requirement - thus you can see my confusion!

just went to http://www.housecall.trendmicro.com and was installing it when i got a pop up message saying it was incompatible with my Macfee program (which came with the laptop) and either hit yes to uninstall Macfee or no to cancel. i went ahead and cancelled since i didn't know what to do.i went to http:www.lavasoftusa.com and downloaded their product. it said it found 295 infections, but that they would only fix 20 for free. so i purchased the product online and went thru all the rigamaroll (sp?) with it only to find out, i don't think it works with Vista! it kept going round and round with the same prompts, etc. and never does it come to an area that says "remove infections". gee, why do i find Vista so frustrating?next, i will check out your last suggestion at http://www.safer-net...g/en/index/html and see what happens there!won't go to walmart to purchase system suite 7 pro unless i know for sure it is compatible with vista! too many problems!

Ad aware basic is free and very effective..at least it used to be... but .I would be suspicious of a list of results that high...most of them are probably tracking cookies or your pc would be so slow it wouldn't work with 200 or so spyware infections...System Suite 7 is compatible with Vista. [url]http://www.v-com.com/promo/SystemSuite7Launch1006VCHOME.html_ for more info. It is excellent, I used version 5, 6 and now 7. No complaints. Spybot should fix any problems for free in the meantime. I have used McAfee, and Norton, and System Suite does more and better for less money. I have it on my laptop and my Desktop. As far as Mcafee, you could disable Mcafee, rather than uninstall it, and Trend Micro could scan and fix your problems. McAfee. As far as Vista, a lot of programs aren't compatible yet, and although I have received my free upgrade to Vista OS disc I don't plan on installing it anytime soon.

i did think the # was a tad on the high side for infections - but thought maybe it was because i wasn't really sweeping yet. the few times i've run spybots, they've come back and said there were 0 results, which i thought was odd - made me think it wasn't doing a very good job. i ran adware on my other computer (a towewith XP) and it presented itself totally different from when i tried it with vista. it ran it for free and found many results. so obviously there is an issue with vista!i will definitely go to walmart and check out the other recommendation, especially since it is compatible with vista. my pc is a dell and i've been told they are "very" sensitive and crash quickly - this is why it is so important to me to get this under control while the laptop is relatively new and hopefully i can maintain it effectively! (i say hopefully.....) i appreciate your time in taking to give me the feedback. thanks.
