Ok, here's the breakdown.I have a Seagate SATA drive. 160GB, 7200RPM. I recently installed Vista Ultimate, only to find, like most others, that being a gamer sucks with Vista. So I went to put XP back on. Oh noes! Windows Setup did not detect any drives! So I went back to an old 40GB Maxtor IDE that I had sitting around. INstalled XP on it, and then plugged in the Seagate. All well and good, untll the Maxtor stareted to go. Tired of restarts and freezes, I endeavored to get XP back on the Segate. Now, here's the interesting part. I was unable to find SATA drivers that worked, so I plugged it into my roommates machine, which has an Intel mobo that can recognize SATA drives as IDE drives. Installed XP on it with no issues. However, when I went to plug the drive into my system, it got to the XP splash screen, and then restarted. It will not boot. I think it's a conflict with the hardware profiles between the new machines.Any help in the matter would be greatly appreciated.

I had a problem like that with my system too. I found on my motherboard site in a forum that i had to do the whole F6 and install the raid driver for my motherboard in order for it to recognize my SATA drive. So I had to make a raid driver disk on a floppy off the CD that came with my motherboard. I started installing pressed F6 picked the raid driver for XP when it let me and then the drive showed up. Then I just didnt finish setting up the raid. That worked for me wonder if it might help you

OK i've been kinda searching your forums and like you said not much is clear that I can find. Have you tried the raid and sata drivers from sis? http://www.sis.com/d..._step1.phpOther than that I dont know the best chance is the MSI forums. Im really not sure what exact board you have, 2 show up so just keep reading if the above idea doesnt work. Not sure how that one from sis works you may need to download it unzip then run a program to install it on a floppy or it may be as easy as just putting it on the floppy. I would first use the sis id software to make sure this is the one you want. Good luck let me know if you tried this already

Thanks for the info, just what I needed. Managed to get the disk recognized and formatted, but when I went to do the actual install, it asked for the diskette. I inserted it, hit Enter, and no dice. Dunno if it's just that the floppy disk itself is bad or what.Perhaps I'll use nlite to make my own install CD with the drivers on it already.

Is there a setup you need to run first to put them on the floppy? Well I gotta get back to work so Good luck Ill check back later

Well, the drivers that I used on the rebuild cd are the ones from the forum. At this point, I'm going to try putting then on a different disc perhaps. There was an error writing all the files to it last time, the one it left off was the NT or Server 2003 file. I figured it was moot, as I'm installing XP Home.I appreciate all the help, though.

Well I have one more Idea I also installed Vista and decided it was horrible for gaming. So what I did was install a dual boot system so I could restart my computer when I wanted to game and load up XP and when I wasnt gaming I have Vista available to use and learn. I dont know if Vista will automatically see the drive or not but its worth a shot. Here is the guide I followed and it works great.http://www.winmatrix.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=12774
