I was typing in WinWord & suddenly the computer Freaked Out & converted my Desktop to Left Hand Drive.

Did I unknowingly type some “Secret” Hot Key, while typing in WORD?

1st. How can I get my Desktop back to it’s "PROPER" (Bottom Oriented, Taskbar, Quick Launch, & System Tray (or whatever Win7 calls the System Tray)?

2nd. How can I DISABLE ALL the Win7 Hot Keys & the 1000’s of Hot Keys installed by programs?

3rd. Is there ANY 3rd. party program that can KILL Hot Keys, Windows & Other?

Thanks!

Hope I understand "1ST" correctly.

You should be able to left click and drag it where you want it.
If not, right click on task bar and left click, "lock the taskbar", then drag it to where you want it then right taskbar, click "lock the taskbar" to lock it.

Works that way with XP, not home on my w7 to confirm it works the same way.

Yes you can disable hot keys, did it once but don't recall the exact steps.
Someone will follow my post with those details.

Yeah, you can right click on the task bar in Windows 7 and lock the taskbar. Can't really say on disabling hot keys and I haven't had the time to check

UPDATE: Here you go, the windows Hotkeys are all combinations of the Windows Key + something else, for example Windows + L will switch users. The CTRL+ALT+DownArrow is a Graphics Hotkey. To disable them, simply right click anywhere on your screen and select Graphics Options and then Hot Keys and then Disable. Problem solved.

THANKS!!!! That put everything back on the bottom, where it Belongs.

I hope Somebody knows how to DISABLE All Hot Keys. While not "frequent", hitting "secret" Hot Key combinations while typing, is something that happens WAY to Often!!!!!! Simply KILLING All Hot Keys, is what I need to do. I prefer a "Stupid Windows" that Only does what I tell it to do, IF I tell it to do something.

HEY, Mickeysoft, Are You Listening?

Sorry, That doesn't work. Rt. clicking on an unused area of the Desktop brings up this menu:

Catalyst Control (this is for the video card)
View
Sort By
Refresh
Paste (this is ghosted out)
Paste shortcut (this is ghosted out)
Groove folder Synchronization
New
Screen resolution
Gadgets
Personalization

There is no "Graphics" option. This is Win7 32bit.

Anybody else have an idea on how to KILL Windows Hot Keys & program installed Hot Keys?

I opened gpedit.msc & got as far as User Configuration/Administration Templates. At that point I got the following error from Microsoft Management Console, "MMC cannot initiate the snap-in". Like all Windows error msg's, this one is meaningless, unless you're the guy who wrote the code.

I did however C&P the article into a WORD.doc.

Good luck.

I opened REGEDIT & tried to navigated to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft \Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies

Prob: There is no "Policies" listed, so this is a No-Go.

Any & All suggestions are welcome.

Hi MLStrand56

Hope you've found a way to disable the hot keys by now. If not, here's how to disable them for two specific cases.

To disable the hot key combinations involving the Windows logo key, open the registry editor. Go to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer" and change the value of the key "NoWinKeys" to 1. (To enable the hot keys again, change this value to 0.) If the key cannot be found, you need to create it.

To disable the accessibility hot keys (for example, holding down Shift for 8 seconds brings up an accessibility dialog box), enter this path in an Explorer window: "Control Panel\Ease of Access\Ease of Access Center\Make the keyboard easier to use" and uncheck "Turn on Sticky Keys" and "Turn on Filter Keys".

Another type is the graphics hot keys. To disable those, right click the graphics related icon in your system tray (it should be near the clock somewhere; its name should correspond to your graphics card manufacturer, for example, Intel Graphics Driver), and then click Properties. In the resulting dialog box, under some tab you're likely to find the option to disable the hot keys.
