Our Pitney Bowes postage meter message came up to replace the ink cartridge. I did not have a replacement, and it takes about 4-5 days to get one from Pitney Bowes, so I pressed the clear button on the meter, and the message went away, of course the message would appear after each use. I just cleared it each time and got an extra week of usage out of the cartridge. The ink stayed very red the whole week. t wheeler

[quote name='rmaruniak'] Just remove the cartridge and shake it hard, mostly down toward the jets a few times. The ink that is still up inside the cartridge foam will be put in a useful postiion.Yessss!!!!!!! It worked!!My stupid Epson D88 told me there were only 9 pages of black ink left -- and I'd only changed the cartridge 2 days ago. So I tried the shaking trick (and I was quite fierce, as I was VERY cross) and I've just printed out another 42 pages!!!Would love to use that Epson Utility thing, but I've got a Mac and there isn't a Mac version. Hey ho.What I really, really need to do is scrub the ink jets clean. I've tried the cleaning cycle (using loads of ink in the process) and I just can't get rid of gaps in the black. Anyone know if there's a way of flushing the things out with a cleaner I could buy? Rather than just running the printer's cleaning cycle that just uses up my ink. (Can you tell that I haven't a clue about the insides of a printer?? )Could be that I should shell out some real money and buy a better printer???

Neon,I love my HP 6180. Install issues: If installing on an HP update your bios, they have a new one for "all in one printers" Watch for your machine not booting right with it plugged in-try again with it unplugged. A new bios fixed that for me.,Refilling ink cartridge won't show in the HP Solution Center, but run a diagnostic and it will show you real levels. Check out getting a reset chip cartridge, that might work. All the new cartridges I bought are being rejected and the printer won't work unless I put in old cartridge. To me a minor problem in comparison to how well the machine works. I even use it wireless with my laptop-that part was easy to set up.In all my years using HP the hardware is great - the tech support stinks!! I usually have to spend a lot of time either on chat or by phone to get correct answers. Don't do anything they tell you unless you feel real comfortable with it. Also they assume you know nothing about computers. I've only had two real issues that were more software than hardware. I would definitely recommend this machine to anyone - just be prepare to reload your own ink. I hope this helps.Judy

I have the HP Photosmart C5180 and use it for photo printing. It has six ink cartridges that sell for 35.00 for all six or as much as 10.00 one at a time. The printer will warn you that ink is low. Then later it stops printing. I turn off the printer and take out the old cartridge and replace it with a new one. I then turn the printer oon and donot print. Turn it back off and put the old cartridge back in and it prints many more photos. Somehow it fools the printer.
