i wan't to know why apple didn't use this "glass" material on the ipod nano or the ipod video? this would have made the ipod the most scratch proof ever.also i was expecting the iphone to stop working after the first 3 drops. well apple you made us proud! good work!now i know where my "life savings" are going to!

Though impressive.. Dropping it on the edge of the metal frame is probably the strongest part of the phone and though the glass coulda cracked most of the imact was to the frame.To perform a TRUE drop test the unit needs to be dropped on each of the 6 faces... This includes a DIRECT flat drop of the glass to the concrete.I'd like to see how it would hold up if it were dropped face down on a gravel surface or the coner of a steel or stone table or curb.Also a SMOOTH worn key may not do a lot to glass... Try it on your car windshield and you would see same... but try it with a fresh cut key...Hey what about that diamond ring in the purse? No precious stones rubbing against the face? C'mon its a womans handbag...Also if you had the unit in your jeans pocket might you not SIT down in it... Not only is there scratch and dint impacts but there is also tortional impacts.. Imagine the flex of the case in some tight jeans when ya sit down for that latte in the cafe!

They should try some other tests.1. In a washing machine, the phone could be left in your pocket.2. Dropped in a swimming pool or tub of water. I've jumped into a pool with my cellphone in my pocket before, it still works though.3. Run over by a car, I've seen phones survive this (with a broken screen, but still functional)4. Tied to a wooden post and put over a fire to be sacrificed to the god of Summer Crops to bring good rains and no famine to the villagers.

Come-on gang! ok...so I appreciate the video of the testing, but I am stuck with one problem. My "test" result was that the screen will shatter if you step out of a car with the iPod on your lap (unsecured) and it falls onto concrete. Yes, it broke in one drop.What can I do to prove that this is some type of manufacturing defect with either the mounting of the glass or the quality of the glass? btw, the phone still works fine minus the great health hazard of glass shards all over it. Am I the only one in the world to get an iPhone and bust it like this?

can anyone confirm if Apple Stores or AT&T stores will replace phones with broken screens from the first week? or within the first 14 days?I'm struggling to reconcile the comments from various Genius Bars as reported by forum posters.

I dropped my iPhone from about pocket hieght, resulting in the screen shattering, emphasize the shatter...over half the sreen has cracks on it. There are now deep gouges in the corners of both the plastic and metal. The iPhone logo is barely legible from scratches on the back.

esatboy -- I can't confirm that they will always replace them, but I know someone who dropped his iPhone, shattered his screen, and did get a replacement from Apple.

dropped iphone while in a sena leather case on it's right lower corner. cracked the plastic casing and damaged the wi-fi circuitry which is situated in that part of the phone.
The black plastic bottom is brittle and particularly vulnerable to damage at it's corners, Apple needs to make the iphone more rugged.

And how! I shot my iPhone at close range with a hunting rifle and the darn thing went and stopped working on me. Thanks, Apple!

#3 do you really think you could use an iphone after being run over by a car? its a touchscreen phone and the screen is going to crack if you run it over. not a spiderweb crack but a car wreck looking thing... no damn way it would work. and really?
