It's always interesting to hear all the haters out there dig up business-case arguments for something that is clearly not a "traditional" business device. The iPhone "is" revolutionary in that it employs a range of existing "as well as" new functionality in the "most" innovative, compelling, and (yes) "cool" fashion ever created. Sure other phones and devices off similar capabilities, but none do so in such a way that raises the ire of grey-suits and curmudgeons. A segment of our society has a pre-occupation with taking issue with "non-issues".No worries... business folks in-the-know "will" purchase and employ iPhones in due time if for nothing else than to become part of the progressive world of "me-toos"... think about the phenomenal numbers of "suits" who use iPods at gym or plugged into the dash of their MBZ's and Bimmers! If you don't like the iPhone... just stick with your Treo or Blackberry and call it a day! But remember, you'll never be as "cool" as an iPhone user!!!

iPhone on an airplane to watch videos? I wonder if that is really permitted?Why?- The Author wrote: "I will happily leave my laptop in the overhead bin on long flights and watch movies and TV shows on that."

But remember, you'll never be as "cool" as an iPhone user!!!So you think no MMS, no voice dial, no video capture, slow data network, no MP3 ringtones (isn't this supposed to be a music phone?), and all its other shortcomings are "non-issues"? I am absolutely 100% amazed that people rushed out to spend that much money on this thing when it doesn't do a lot of the things a free cell phone will do and costs only slightly less than an entry level laptop. Anyone who bought the iPhone has once again had the wool pulled over their eyes by Steve Jobs, the master of all false marketing.

jron -- yes, it's fine as long as the phone is in "airplane mode" (so it is not sending or receiving internet or phone signals). That can be accessed in the settings of the phone.

There are the subsidizers and the subsidized. There are the benefactors and the quiet beneficiaries. From all the description of the iPhone I don't see anything in there that my $80 Nokia E-65 does not have. On the other hand, all the deficiencies mentioned are old stuff in my Nokia. Detractors will say that I don't get it. I am just happy to be a quiet beneficiary of the eco-system. I am able to do everything as well if not faster than a person can do with an iPhone. I am not at all upset that those people are paying $500. In fact I thank them for doing it so that I can enjoy my Nokia at $80. Imagine if there were no Linux users. Windows XP would cost $1,000.

This article reveals how far behind the US residents are in the cellular business compared to rest of the world. For example is 430x320 "an amazing resolution" when e.g. Nokia N800 offers 800x480? How can you say that "camera phone with all the limitations of any other camera phone. There's no flash and no zoom.." when e.g. all Nokia N-series phones have flash and zoom (and with up-to 5 Mp resolution). And especially, how can a combination of cell phone, Web browser, and iPod be revolutionary when almost all teen age kids have that combination in their phones (here in Europe)? And when you are struggling with 2G networks, we are already having 3.5G networks with speed of several Mbit/s. And now we start watching digital TV from our phones and they have also GPS...Only thing that is a bit novel in this phone is the user interface. Although touch display itself is nothing new.
