Okay, I am not an expert when it comes to Rootkits. However, I have three links to forums that will help you decipher what that log means.SysinternalsGeeks To GoAnti RootkitI would follow the directions within these three sites and get assistance with that log.

Hi Conrad,Contrary to what mphenterprises says, you CAN delete the service pack folders from your Windows folder with the excepton of: $hf_mig$ and $xpsp1hfm$. The only reason you want to keep all those service pack folders is if you choose to uninstall a service pack that may be giving you problems. These can take up several hundred MB's of disk space. Also run a search for "MSOCACHE" and go ahead and delete those files as well. And DEFINITLEY delete ALL your Temp and Temporary Internet Files!!

RoryH. I didn't say he "couldn't." I said he "shouldn't." Of course he can delete the Service Packs, but why? All that would do is trigger Windows Update to prompt him to install the Service Packs again.Thank you for emphasizing that point.

Hi Conrad,One last thing: go through your Add/Remove Progams list and tally up the size of all the programs you have installed. My guess is either you have several very large programs, like CAD programs, or MS Office (XP and 2003 can each take up to 300 MB's or more if you did a complete install of either), or you have VERY many programs and simply need to determine which ones you no longer need/use and get rid of them. I know you mentioned in an earlier post that you kind of did this, but you might want to consider this again and really evaluate what programs/apps you need and don't need. Also, did you upgrade to XP from an earlier OS? It may be that your system still has the Uninstall information for either XP, or your earlier OS; if so, you can get rid of that information as well, which takes up a huge amount of disk space. Also I don't recall seeing you try a simple process: right-click on your hard drive icon, go to Properties and click on Disk Cleanup (it may take several minutes to analyze this information, especially if there is a lot to clean up). Once the window has poped up showing what needs to be cleaned up just go ahead and check everything. HOWEVER, after you have check marked everything in the cleanup window and BEFORE hitting OK, click on the More Options tab, look to the bottom of the window to System Restore and click the clean up button here too: this removes all previous restore points with the exception of the most recent good restore point; this in itself can take many GB's worth of space! Once that is done, then click back on the Disk Cleanup tab and click OK. Again, this may take SEVERAL minutes to complete (I've seen as long as 20 - 30 minutes!).

mphenterprises,Actually it does not prompt you to download the service packs again. As I said they contain the uninstall info only. The folders: $hf_mig$ and $xpsp1hfm$ and $xpsp2hfm$ contain the information regarding what has already been downloaded and installed.

...and again...thank you for emphasizing. :-)As Conrad stated, his system is performing much better so at this point, it is a moot situation. If he continues to notice a marked decrease in his available hard drive space, that can be an option upon which he can decide.

Pretty weird stuff going on! Try uninstalling programs, running disk cleanup and defrag all in Safe Mode: you get a much thorough cleaning/defrag (although defrag does not free up disk space as mentioned previously) when this is done in Safe Mode.Like was mentioned earlier: be VERY careful what you delete in the Windows folder, I think you said you deleted the Temp folder? However, that one usually rebuilds itself when your system reboots (if not you can simply create a new Temp folder in the Windows folder-you need this folder). You might also go to Microsofts website for Windows Installer Cleanup utility: http://support.micro...b/290301/en-us; this will help clean up any fragments left over of programs that use the Windows Installer when you instal a program. After you install it, it usually shows up as the last entry in your Start/All Programs menu.A small tip: when deleting large files/folders hold down the Shift key before and while you hit the delete key; this process by-passes the Recycle bin altogether for those files/folders that are too large to fit into it.
