Rats! I got all excited, and then found that Rockbox will not run on my SanDisk Sansa m-series. On the other hand, I now have the perfect reason to buy a different player. The "dual-boot" feature is important, and might have been pointed out earlier in the text.Nonetheless it's an excellent article -- thanks.

I've been running Rockbox on my iRiver H10 for some time, and I even made a working WPS theme for it since I didn't like any of the included themes and couldn't find any I liked on the site. My only complaint is that, currently, scrolling by dragging my thumb along the scroll strip doesn't work (scrolling is done by tapping or holding my thumb at the top or bottom of the scroll strip), so scrolling tends to take a while through long file lists.

No way Apples GUI is wonderful and runs seemlessly. the File structure sucks but i can deal with that because the iPod Software is Great and you can use the ipod as a mass storage device with out rockbox, if i used OGG file i would use it but i use mp3s and wma and they work great.

It does not sound like Rockbox supports spoken audio like IPOD does. For example, with an audio book or other lengthly spoken work IPOD continues where it left off like a cassette tape. This is the reason I bought an IPOD.

Actually, Rockbox does support picking up audio files from where the player was turned off at, including if the player properly shuts itself down from low battery. Also, if you wish to stop an audio file at a certain point, say if you want to listen to something else, you can turn on the bookmarking feature which will allow you to pick up from where you left off with that file at any time.

I sure would appreciate knowing the theme and font your using. I've yet to find a font that I can read! I realize its my fault since I'm over 65.

Will Rockbox converted files play on a Creative lab Zen? I'd like to connect a cassette recorder to my PC and burn cassette tapes to CD's
