Then the WHAAAmbulance would come. Maybe they can force a company to make a PHONE usable to people who can't hear!

This country is great but with a lot of unhappy and bitching folks; Hot coffee is too hot, blind can't use glasses, deaf can't use phones, without legs can't run. Somehow somebody else is always to be blamed for their deficiencies.

The cost of making the iPhone compliant with disability standards wasn't worth it to Apple since the majority of people with those disablities are well outside Apple's target demographic. So, if you're old (over 34), uncool, unhip and disabled, they don't want to know you.
Apple isn't the only corporate entity with this attitude. The entire entertainment industry, especially TV, is pretty much the same, as far as content is concerned anyway. Apple is just a little more blatant about it.

If apple is going to violate the law and discriminate against the disabled they should be heaily fined. All of those who think the hearing impaired are being babies. Maybe should try living your life without the ability to hear one word.

I agree with you 100%, gfhq94a!

dnalop, yes someone is always going to be complaining, but this is not the case. This is trying to get a product that should be up to standards available to as many people as possible with quality!

And these people are outside Apple's demographic age? Wow, last I noticed jsg55, not everyone who is hearing impaired is older than 34! In fact I have a friend who is into a lot of tech gadgets just like I am. He uses his cell phone/pda quite frequently and it works with hearing aids and works great for those who are hearing impaired. Oh, one thing I should mention, he is in his 20's!

You know, it's not too hard for a person to ask for a product to be available to as many people as possible.

I'm not saying that Apple SHOULD have made the iPhone more equipped. I'm saying that since way too many of you sing apple's praises and think that they are the greatest, then by even your standards, this is something that they should have thought through and made happen--especially if they are "innovators." If the overly flashy iPhone has a screen that can flip (ooo pretty), then the least they can do is make it easier and more accessible for a person that is hearing impaired!

I did say 'most' people with hearing loss were outside the demographic but you are correct in that there are plenty of young people in that group as well, at least some of whom can attribute that loss to listening to iPods at too high sound levels. Isn't that ironic.

It is still a fact that Apple wants young, healthy, trendy and free spending types for their customers, preferably those who will not question anything Jobs does but, instead, praise and worship him blindly.

What to totally blind people do? Virtual keyboards and keypads are of no use to blind folks. Same for the iPhone. Thanks Steve Jobs for screwing the blind folks just to market over priced techno-geek crap.
