Can't be much worse than the worm that is AIM in the first place. Let's see, installs unwanted extra software, bombards the user with ads, puts unnecessary items in the user's startup.... Looks like malware, acts like malware...... IT IS MALWARE No, it's AOL!

I got pretty annoyed with aim since they put out aim tron. The thing is entirely too bulky for what its for, and it always installs needless crap.. aolsoftware anyone? It has several things running some of which aren't needed, and when I use it for direct connect it puts itself back on the start up! I think one time I even had a problem getting it off my computer, not sure though it was a while ago... not to mention there ads video ads that start up if you accidentally put your mouse over it. Waste of space really. I am very content with Pidgin, especially since I can log into myspaceim now that eliminates yet another program I don't need running and taking up my memory (and adding more vulnerabilities for attacks obviously.. didn't yahoo messenger have a similar issue not too long ago.)
edit- I remember now I did. I had to restart my computer into safe mode just to get it all off. After that I really didn't want to use aim at all. The other messengers always bothered me because you had to pay close attention on install otherwise you get unneeded software like yahoo toolbar.

Ha! Yeah that's true, very true.My dad was using the AOL software for his DSL internet connection and it was slower than Dial-Up.He has just recently dumped it and started using IE,it goes at the speed of lightening remember when I still used my AIM mail it was the slowest thing I'd ever seen then I got tired of it and switched to Hotmail.

I used hotmail a long time ago.. and aol even further back! I remember when it was (about) your only dial up choice. Watching the little guy.. hoping you will connect... watching.. waiting... waiting... waiting lol. Some good times though back then. I'm glad they have aim for people who wanted to transition from aol and keep there friends you know, but I just think there are a lot of things wrong with it. I've never tried aim mail, before I got gmail I used to search for funny name free accounts for example one of my emails was 'syntheticsanity(at)itookmyprozac.com'
