MPH - The reason he may get sound out of the game is that some games bypass the windows processor for sound and video and write directly. This is why they won't run under Vista. After more that a decade of warning, MS closed these back doors in the name of security. He is still running XP so he gets sound under one game.
Chris93336 - if you click on the sound card line in device manager with the exclamation mark on it, it should tell you what windows thinks is the problem.
Looking at the photo MPH posted and looking at the HP website, it appears the item occupying the one and only PCI slot in the PC in the photo is the modem. If you are connected to the internet via the ethernet port, you would either have a modem in the expansion slot that could be removed, a wireless card in the expansion slot that could be removed or a empty slot with a blank cover on the rear. Then you could install an internal sound card.

Hi Chris. At this point, I think it is best that you show us what you see. Take a couple of screen shots of the areas you feel are of concern and post them in here so we can all see what you see. If you are not sure how to post screen shots in this forum, read this Document.
