And if you believe this pile of BULL I got a piece of land for sale has water front view ( part of the FLOOD PLAIN ) of the Salt river ! "VISTA" has such a LOW MARK by us in the IT business its not funny . . I am switching to Linux Mandriva 2008 586i DVD version its a FULL 64 Bit O/S already . . Add VMware-server and load maybe XP Pro inside of it . . Has Linux FIRE WALL and LINUX ANTI VIRUS then MUCH more SAFER than ANY MS crappy O/S ever had ! !

WOW are you wrong on that ! . . I Can run any game you run on windows in Linux Mandriva i586 2008 DVD version ! . . Just add Code Weavers Pro 6.2 and run the piss out of them . . They also have another way of running your games in Linux at Transgaming.com In fact the new version of Linux Mandriva is a full 64 bit version . . and has tons of drivers for almost anything . . I have a Laptp which came with "VISTA" Installed I laughed and put the DVD in the DVD burner and restarted the Laptop from start to finih was under 37 minutes . . Thats erase the drive partition it and install Linux Mandriva i586 2008 it found EVERYTHING that had a windows driver and ran it . . Lets see you do that with WINDOWS ( windblows as I call it ) To put in XP from dead start takes longer than that and that is on a Intel Socket 775 3.4 gigahertz P4 with 2 gigs ram and a 160 gig HD also had a 256 DDR PCI 16X video card ! And still had to load the mother board and video plus sound to get it running with WINDBLOWS ! Linux was done and installed plus signed in 37 minutes . . and it had al the drivers and mother board loaded . . So don't give me that pile of B.S.

It sounds like you are a Linux person Jackie, So lets stick to the OS that people are all up set about and try to find the fix's for Vista because nobody care's about Linux, I for one had tryed Linux a few years ago and I went back to Windows XP then because it served me much better. Now I use both windows products and I'm very happy with them. Good Luck with Linux Jackie have a nice day..........

Can anyone tell me why my brand new Dell computer with Vista home basic malfunctions all the time, making it impossible to click a link or download files/pictures.Every single time I use the computer,I have to reboot at least twice within an hour in order to be able to click links or download.......I am feeling rather dissappointed that I chose Vista when I had the computer built.....

Please post the exact specifications of your machine and the exact problems you are having in the Windows discussion area. There are many there that can help, but do not generally wander over here. It could be the one-size-fits-all pre-installed anti-malware suite.

Well, I know for sure that your laptop does not have a Broadcom chip for the wireless - NO LINUX SUPPORT. This info was from the Ubuntu section of the Linux forum (not the PC World forum). In fact, it most likely is not Linksys either as their USB adapters are suffering from NO LINUX SUPPORT. Check the Linux discussion area on the PC World forum.
And you did not refute Vlad's comment about games - fact - very few of the gamers will attempt to run Linux because most of the games just won't run on Linux. Again this is from discussions on the PC World forum. But many have tried, and failed to get them to run. But then, they don't run Mac's either for the same reason.
BTW - a full install of Vista on a clean drive on a new build with the OEM install disk takes about 30 minutes. XP takes about 60.

Kevin A Lot Of People are Having your problem WITH "VISATA" and MS keeps ducking and bobbing its way through the phone calls it gets all day long ! . . . I would suggest you go back to XP Pro. . . And it will find most of the stuff but you will have to go into the contorl panel and write down all the things it has so you can download the drivers for that piece of hardware . . Or you can order Linux Mandriva at www.linunxucentral.com cost of it would be around $18.00 on a DVD ( means no switching CD's ) as Linux has a lot of things it can put on your computer . . If you want to see about what it would look like you can download someof the live CD's and run them . . It loads the entire OS into memory and runs programs off the CD and there are a gob of them . . I have a page for computer geeks on my web site
http://www.lynns-store.com http:// Link is over on the left hand side of the page . . There are several links to the different Live CD versions of Linux there ! ! www.Puppylinux.com is a greal Good version to load and its really VERY FAST since I can run it IN MEMORY on a 486 with a whole Whopping 96 megs of MEMORY and it ran faster then the windows 98 SE that was on it and found all the stuff like sound, modem, video, PC card reader. and the PCMICA slot, Printer ports, and com ports, and thats on a OLD COMPAQ laptop had a 4 gig HD . . I even found out going to HP.COM I could put a 30 gig Drive in it and run a lot more junk (Programs) on it ! So for $38.00 for a 30 gig hd and 10 for a Linux or the old Win 98 SE on it it will run a lot better . . maybe even faster with Win 98 SE on the bigger HD !

Kevin - before you jump to Linux - Mandriva or any other flavor, do yourself a big favor - check out the Linux forums at Linuxforums.org and check out the list of people asking for help with problems. Linux is not the panacea that some believe. It may be fine if you are a real computer geek, or just want to browse the internet on a wired computer (not wireless as there are documented problems there).
If you want your computer to be what you expected, check out the windows discussion area and post the specifics of your problems.

Thanks Everone for your suggestions.I went to the windows forum and found what I think is what I needed.I got rid of norton, which was only a trial script that came with the comp, and downloaded Avast, which so far is working.I have not had a problem since.I hope very much that it stays that way..........
Thank You Again,Everyone, this is a great place and I will be recommending it to all I can,
Kevin
