Crysis is truly a graphical marvel, certainly the best and latest of this kind of game, but where it faults is it's enjoyment factor, here it falls down tragically. The game is simply irritating and aggravating through the majority of the levels even when played on the easiest level. It appears the developers of the game were concentrating on the graphical aspect of the game but weren't paying much attention to enjoyment aspect. In contrary C.O.D.4 is graphically great and is quite fun to play.
Just a heads up opinion.

I am hoping that this game takes FarCry to the next level. Graphically that appears to be true, but playability appears to be a concern here. Has anyone played both? How do these two Crytek games compare?

I've played both Far Cry and Crysis.

I guess I'm at odds with myself on the comparison. Far Cry was a visually stunning game, especially for 2004. Crysis is also visually stunning, but as I recall, top-end systems could run Far Cry at max settings on release, whereas Crysis can't be run at max settings on any consumer-level PC in existence today. Comparing the two, Crysis makes Far Cry look cartoonish, and remember, Far Cry looks great. Crysis approaches photo-quality animation at max settings.

As far as gameplay goes, the games are similar. Far Cry was longer, but Crysis is more intense. Crysis enemies, the human ones anyways, are a LOT smarter than the enemies in Crysis. The nanosuit in Crysis is very cool, allowing you to approach the game in a lot of different ways. Put the suit in cloak mode, sneak up behind a guy, put the suit in strength mode, grab the guy by the throat, throw him in the air and skeet-shoot him. Neat. Or just sneak cloaked and hit guys in the back of the head with your suit in power mode. Or just tool around and shoot everybody. There are a lot of options for the imaginative types - at least in the jungle portion of the game. Once you're on the Aircraft Carrier, it's your standard shooter. I would have liked the Aircraft Carrier to be fully explorable.

Finally, I expected something better at the end than your standard "kill the giant boss enemy".

I haven't played in multiplayer mode yet, but I'll be doing that soon. I expect that the deathmatch mode will work like every other FPS deathmatch mode, and that the second mode will be a lot of fun. More later...

Thanks DoctorDoom. Your feedback is much appreciated. I have begun evaluating the Crysis Demo, to justify $59.99 for the full game. So far that seems like a lot to pay for a frustrating experience. I will most likely wait for about a year, when the price drops down to only $30 and all the patches are out. By then I should also be able to afford to upgrade my 8600 GTS graphics card. I still haven't completed Oblivion yet. Now THAT is an enjoyable game, with an incredibly high playability/cost ratio.

No problemo...

Yeah, if you're not just dying to play Crysis, I would probably wait until some better hardware comes out (GeForce 9000 graphics card series to be released in February 2008) and the price of the game drops.

I have Far Cry & Halo, they are good, until they get into the corridor type levels.
I dont like having to do all the memory work navigating mazes, I had enuff of that with Duke Nukem.
Games should be fun, not a work exercise.
As for Crysis being irritating, cheat codes or a good trainer should help with that.

I don't understand why everyone is crying. It takes longer to make it look eye candy then it is to make a well written "story". The reason for the game is to make you wow at it and to push the envelope with our "demanding hardware".If game makers put more stress on the hardware that makes companies make more demanding hardware then wimpy hardware. And the other upside is that it motivates other gamers to make their games,"better then the other". I'm only 23 so if im wrong don't cry at me. IF YOU WANT SOMETHING WELL WRITTEN READ A DAMN BOOK! Remeber CRYSIS means make hardware CRY.

Demetre, some people actually buy video games to be entertained by an entertaining, exciting, or intriguing storyline. Like Bioshock or Oblivion. Then there are other folks who just mindlessly want to frag opponents with split-second reflexes. The people in this forum are not crying, they are just discussing the entertainment value of the Crysis game. I am hoping Santa will drop me a copy. Then I'll let you know if Crysis is really as great as folks tell me.

I will say that Crysis is a truly remarkable grahical creation, though that's where the problem is.3 You've got to go buy some rig with a Quad-Core CPU and maybe two 8800 Ultras to run it smoothly(okay so that's a bit of an exaggeration using 2 Ultras). Though at least more people will be able to play it when some more advanced and CHEAPER GPUs releases

After playing throught the demo at medium settings on a Core 2 Duo rig with a single MSI 8600 GTS PCIe graphics card, I must say that I was satisfied enough to justify getting the full version. The frame rate would drop significantly in some of the highly detailed areas, but the performance hit was bearable. And the game was quite captivating. The realism is so extreme, and the action so real. I am certainly looking forward to playing the full version of the game.
