I do have to disagree about formatting. Most camera manuals (and my experience as a lab owner) will tell you to format your card before use (yes, when brand new) and after you're ready to reuse the card. Erasing only takes away the file name- I've seen many times where the camera writes mulitple files to the same 'slot', writes only part of the file to the slot or senses that it's full when it is not as the result of being fragmented without reformatting. I now do not delete- ever- and do reformat before reuse- always.
