Scott::This line was left out of the print version of the magazine:
Save the file to a convenient location such as the Desktop, and give it a name like CopyToMoveTo.reg (be sure to include the .reg extension)

RE: Fast Window Fixes
The registry patch to add Copy to Folder and Move to Folder does not work as written in the magazine. The lines below work for me, signed: Lucky76

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEYCLASSESROOTAllFilesystemObjects]

[HKEYCLASSESROOTAllFilesystemObjectsshellex]

[HKEYCLASSESROOTAllFilesystemObjectsshellexContextMenuHandlers]

[HKEYCLASSESROOTAllFilesystemObjectsshellexContextMenuHandlersCopy To Folder]
@="{C2FBB630-2971-11D1-A18C-00C04FD75D13}"

[HKEYCLASSESROOTAllFilesystemObjectsshellexContextMenuHandlersMove To Folder]
@="{C2FBB631-2971-11D1-A18C-00C04FD75D13}"

Hi Lucky. I think it should be added that one should not dive into the Registry unless he or she feels 100% comfortable with it and has made a backup of the Registry beforehand.

Having had some problems with my 3-year-old Win XP P4 machine, which caused me to do a FULL reformat of the HD 10 days ago, I was very interested in the subject article. I'm not a computer professional, but know my way around the OS, have replaced motherboards, fix friends software problems, design relatively complex applications in Access, etc. So before I do this, I need to ask if I should. I ran thru the instructions for Fast Fix 1 and discovered no drivers for devices no longer connected to the PC. . . BUT found that my CPU (an Intel P4 3.0GHz Prescott) shows up TWICE under Processors in the Device Manager. Both entries are identical in every way -- same driver, same device ID.

Why are there two identical entries? Should there be? Can I delete one of them?

Fix with (Windows-R, type gpedit.msc )
=======================================
"gpedit" is not to be found in my XP Home files.
Or [n search or Help.
====================
Open My Computer, right click a cdrom icon
and SET YOUR OPTION THERE.:)
Much easier way.

I have for 5 years subscribed to your on line Magazine and quite truthfully, 5 years ago is when I bought my first PC and you guys actually taught me how to do all of things that I do. I learned of new programs and experiences, where to get neat downloads and stay abreast of all the lastest tech and software. I trusted without question you reviews. I got the news and how to from you when XP SP2 was being released and how to get it. I actually got my first info and previews of Vista from you and the excitement of a new system was overwhelming. From your acticles I downloaded the insruments that would let me know what else I needed to run Vista Home Premium. Thank You, I love it!! But while I'm in the mood to dish out thank yous, I have to thank Tech Gods that I was able to read your reviews of Vista before you and all your writers conspired to keep Vista out of the main stream so you wouldn't have to update your own outdated hardware and software, and have to learn something new!

How the He does one unsubscribe from a thread on this board? If I click "Stop e-mail notifications", I get an error message from IE saying "Object not supported".

Hi KNRover. I believe this is a clitch in the system between IE 6 and the forum. Even though that error message came up, I guarantee that the email notification is turned off. To test this, refresh the browser...or close the browser and reopen. You will now see that, under the Action section, you have the option to "Receive Email Notifications."

If you want to turn all email notifications off, please follow the steps laid out within this Document.

Fast Windows Fixes, Sunday, November 25, 2007 10:00 PM PST, Manage Files From Your Right-Click Menu. This does work but causes side problems with my system. Problem, do this, go to Start, Programs, highlight a program folder, right click it and select open. With the opentomoveto fix is installed, it causes the folder not to open, but a move where selection window. It thinks you are doing the move to selection and asking for the location to move it to. Remove the registry entries and it returns to normal. Anyone else have this problem.

This is a common problem because the copy/move to service was not designed for the context
menu. It was meant for buttons on an Explorer toolbar. This blog entry by Raymond Chen of
Microsoft explains, in a refreshing manner, why it was not added to TweakUI.
blogs.msdn.com/oldnewthing/archive/2004/02/02/66160.aspx
To work around this, add it to the HKEYCLASSESROOT*shellexContextMenuHandlers key
instead.
Edit: There is a backslash between ROOT and the asterisk which refuses to render properly
in the post.

The biggest problem I have had with Vista is being able to add enough memory to keep it happy. My brand new laptop has hit the blue screen of death several times. When I contacted the laptop's manufacturer their suggeston was to reload Vista....This wasn't the issue, and no I didn't re-load Vista. After talking with others that experienced this same issue, memory is deffinetly the issue. As for compatibility, I haven't yet experienced any problems.....but then I don't run out and buy the newest and latest just because it's there

I have XP and when I type in gpedit.msc in RUN, all I get is an error message telling me to check spelling ,etc., as Windows cannot find it.
So this fix doesn't work for me at all.

gpedit is an XP Pro feature. It is not included with the Home edition.
