Not liking the UI change in Word 2007 is just another example of luddite nostalgia. The ribbon visually and efficiently delivers accessibility and increased functionality to Word. Afraid of the ribbon? Then you must restrict most of what you write to unadorned or minimally formatted text. Hint: use notepad. You'll really love it. Then there's the iPhone. Only a fanboy would have bought into the overwhelming hype the media vomited over the public prior to product launch. Really. Trust me on this one. Having followed what Apple was saying ... and a few, more knowledgeable media sources, the iPhone definitely delivered a satisfying experience to it's customers and sustained the buzz. Because it's not what we call "the jesus phone," you're now whining like a jilted lover. Get over it. Apple is still a corporation and the iPhone is what it is ... which is more than enough, according to Q3 marketshare figures.

Wow, this article takes some shots at some big releases. No holds barred! Given we waited five years for Vista, that was a pretty big disappointment, but the iPhone? A disappointment? Have you looked at the customer satisfaction statistics? 82% reported being "very satisfied". That hardly sounds like a disappointment.

And I quote, "Apple's response was pretty lame, too; a partial credit that couldn't be used for a lot of popular items (such as iTunes)."
This statement is not entirely correct. If people would like to use the credit for iTunes music downloads, all they would have to do is purchase a music gift card.
Now, yes Apple has its reputation at as a customer based company, however, it is also gradually becoming an industry giant. A companies biggest goal is to earn money. Apples move here was terrific. They knew that people would purchase the phone if it was 600 dollars, or 200 dollars. They priced it higher, to pay for production and engineering costs and when that was payed off, they lowed the price to a more suitable one. The Apple credit was another sweet move. It not only brings people back to the apple stores (online or retail) but it gives Apple the opportunity to make more money, which is their goal in the first place.
Think before you speak PCWorld.

Richard Laermer needs to get his facts straight. It IS ILLEGAL to go through someone's trash. Heck, I learned that in high school. It is considered private and requires a search warrant, even if it has been pulled to the curb or loaded into the garbage truck.

This list is exceptionally stupid. What is it based on? Certainly not sales or reviews. The iPhone and Leopard were universally praised despite minor flaws. Office 2007's interface is new, and it's great. Don't even get me started on the HiDef war, in which Microsoft bought off Paramount (for $150 million) to back its format (HD-DVD), which has been getting outsold 3 to 1 for a year now. The HD-DVD camp is responsible for this one. They've lost and they don't know it.
Certainly Vista and Unbox are worthy list items, but the others show the author(s) simply has no idea what he's talking about.

No critique of Vista is complete without a criticism of Leopard. That's a requirement of Microsoft's.
Leopard is a great operating system. But if you never used a Mac and only listened to the swift-boating blogosphere, you wouldn't know it.

This article only highlights my earlier observations, that PC World has become a Microsoft hater, and appears to be bias in its reporting.

Sometimes your reporting appears to be written by someone from Apple....

I am seriously considering cancelling my subscription, which I have had for a number of years. I want good honest reporting, and lately I do not feel I have been getting it.

Dan Tynan, please get your facts straight. This laptop runs circles around the MBP http://www.rjtech.com/d900c.htm

You can't be going around making fastest statements without proper testing. Hell the best avocados I've tasted were from walmart but I've only had them from one other store. Is that an accurate statement? No of course not.

This article stinks!

It is nothing more than a Dvorak-like attempt to get attention by spewing opinions that I doubt even the author believes.

Yeah, the iPhone was a big dissapointment. What are you high?

With the exception of a couple of items - this list is complete rubbish.

Office 2007 is one of the best upgrades and best sets of applications I've ever used. Its place on this list is an absolute joke, and anyone who has used the suite for an extended period of time knows this. Outside of the ribbon making it incredibly easier to do...well....everything, it's so much easier to make professional-looking documents too.
The Microsoft hate in this magazine is nothing short of reprehensible. Zune a disappointment, and you go on to say it's only because of sales? Give me a break. The Zune 2's new features being back-ported to the old Zunes has been heralded as one of the best moves that Microsoft has ever made.

I think this list is pretty much right on. Personally i think the Office 07 interface is great, and i think it will do well in the non-programmer market when it gets there. Otherwise i think this is a well balanced list despite the clamors of pro-mac ppl that all is wonderful in the apple world - an example of the Steve Jobs/Apple mentality that apple can do no wrong. Apple is now finally hitting the big market, but it'll be interesting to see if they can actually hack it in a market that is more than 10% of computer users.

I love it when the fanboys come out to support their products! Almost as much fun as watching Jerry Springer.

This must be the worst bit of fluff I've read all year. Congratulations, PC World, for making CNET look witty and insightful.

You're right. This is just end of the year fluff/filler and is utter rubbish. I came in via a link to #1 (Vista) and correctly predicted that to 'keep everyone happy' (ie 'upset'), the writer would have mentioned Leopard too. I was right! Next up, the Zune so I predicted to myself that the iPhone would be there too... and you know what? I was right about that too.

Dull, prectible fluff.

#14, muni wifi: typical take, why is google always seen as the savior? SF wifi was a JOINT venture between Google and Earthlink. Except it seems Earthlink was expected to pay for the hard stuff, while Google creamed the ad revenue. It died because Earthlink baulked at paying to build Goole a network. Google apparently didn't feel like putting any of their cash down. So why will that magically happen once they own spectrum rights? Somebody has to pay for all that pesky hardware.

you're nuts. i have had zero problems with leopard on my macbook pro and even installed on an old 733MHz tower. it is a big improvement speed-wise and is very, very stable. i don't know what some of you people are doing but it isn't happening to me. leopard is great. you're nit-picking and making something out of nothing.
