Microsoft: No HD DVD Xbox in works

There's little point in releasing an X-Box with HD-DVD. No company is going to put an X-Box game on HD-DVD and cut out 99.9% of 360 owners... this sort of thing was tried before in the games market, and it never worked.
MS is certainly behind HD-DVD, but the gaming division is a different unit of the company. They only recently got the X-Box 360 profitable on its own, and the division has yet to turn a profit. The only possible reason for adding an HD-DVD is to allow the 360 to be an HD-DVD player... Sony's Blu-Ray support, there from the start, allows it to be useful for PS3 titles, too.
Microsoft's gaming division will make more money by lowering the cost of the X-Box 360 as needed to stay viable in the market, and that's going to work with DVD. The HD-DVD would add nothing for gaming, and given $99 HD-DVD blow-out players, not turn anyone onto the 360 as an HD-DVD player.
In short, MS is making a very good call here.
