The optic drive bit is nothing new. With a network, and a computer that doesn't have a dvd drive, I just share the root of the drive. Nothing new. And Apple needing software to be installed on PCs to do this is silly.

Otherwise it seems to be a nice piece of hardware. The 2 gig standard is great, and the only other point of trouble could be the HD thats ripped out of an iPod... And the price... but you get what you pay for (this one isn't overpriced in general, its just overpriced for people who don't need the smallest size ever).

I would buy it, but the price is off.
I think it would be an ideal laptop for young kids and those on the go. The price is high, but this is normal. Laptops carry a premium, and so does this thing.

One more thing... The touch pad should have more then once mouse button... looks like the Bluetooth is gonna get used for a mouse, and soon.

Apple's point with this one is that you don't have to turn on file sharing in order to pull data off the optical drive. It's a MacBook Air-specific piece of software, which means there are no other sharing or security issues. And lots of regular users aren't expert in the ways of root-drive-sharing.

As for the touch pad, right-click is gestural on MacBooks. Click with two fingers on the trackpad and it's a right click. One finger (or none, I suppose) and it's a left-click.

No optical, one USB port, no built in ethernet (if you want ethernet you have to shell out an additional $30), and non-user replaceable battery.....

The HDD is 4200rpm and only 80gigs....

$100 on a USB optical drive that matches the color.... (wtf? Can anyone say "rip off"? externals cost about $40 through newegg)

MacBook Air = phail

I guess apple users will buy anything if it's shiny enough...

The Mac faithful will love it. The press will ogle it. After using it for a while, anyone who wants to do real work will hate it.

An iPOD on steroids.
