These scams are so widespread and so publicized that anyone who falls victim to one gets what they deserve. For one, I doubt anyone of the victims felt sorry for the "throat cancer" victim, they were only thinking about themselves making a quick buck. Serves them right. I'd call the money they lost a "stupid tax". |REMOVED|

Simple solution, ban all money transfers to these 2 african countries and ghana too!!!
They also try to get your heart on dating sites. I have emailed the sites and have had over 20 removed with false post. They say they are from the US, naming a well know city, but when they chat, they say they are short term in Ghana, etc.
I would also like to know how they get our email addresses, do ISP's like AOL sell their customer list to them? If so the leaders of these ISP's should be shot at dawn!!!!!

it would be a good solution to ban money transfer to Nigeria but if they do that then the people in the states that have girl friends wives or other people from the states that are working for missionaries to help people over there would not be able to send them any money when they need money to buy things they need

sometimes a person can be on the net at one time or another and signed up for something to get daily mails from and with the right amount of money to the right people they can buy this information that would be on way
another way would be that a person could go to a website and that site could be a fake site that they made and you would open the page and it would automatically send your info to those people and you would not even know it or you could click on an advertisement or something that was linked to them and it would sent the info to them or you could have gone to a site to buy something online that web site if they were paid enough money they would sell the info to them
another way would be if you got one email like that and had open it that email message would send them a message that the email address telling them that the email address is a real address kinda like a conformation that the email address is not a fake one

I know how they got my email address.
I am a member of several forums, my email address, by my own choice, is not hidden on these forums.
A web bot comes by and collects email addresses that it can see, one of which is mine.
Hotmail, AOL, and every other ISP DO NOT sell their list of customer email. They would be out of business if they did that.

Hi Snorg. That is an excellent example. That is one of the reasons we have been instructed to remove personal email addresses from the public forum. If a person reposts the email address, then there is nothing we should do. Removal of personal email addresses are for everyone's safety and privacy. However, everyone makes the decision to make the email address private or not for themselves.
