Im a computer programmer. Of course I use more than one operating system, but when it comes down to it. XP is my choice for fun. It's a great operating system. No need to do something drastic, and discontinue such a great product. And if you want your XP to look like vista, download Windows Blinds. There are plenty of aero templates for your XP.... ^_^
Windows XP vs. Vista: An Explosion of Opinion

What I'm not understanding about Microsoft and the discontinuation of selling XP is the fact that if both XP and Vista continue to be sold and referenced then microsoft would be able to see the desire of the computer users and fit their needs better. Just because MS is projecting the direction that they wish to take with op systems to provide for what they project will be wanted or needed by users is not necessarily accurate to what the vast array of end users needs are or will be. A user readily identifies his or her needs and knows what fits best after using the system for a relative period of time. If the system is functional for the user requirements and works effectively then the user will stay with the system. When the needs of the user change then after some research a more effective solution via another system might be required. Until the unmet needs becomes apparent there is no need for change.
The Open Source community is providing better end user op systems because they are listening to the users. Ubuntu is a perfect example of how change can be integrated to more accurately fit the needs of the user.
I like XP very much because it works great. Vista also works but is bulky and cumbersome by comparison to XP. I'm not bashing MS as a matter of fact I've been using their software for over 23 years. But, a smart business listens to the people that buy their goods. The buyer knows what he wants. You might try to aggressively convince him or her of their needs, but the money plunked down to buy a system will indicate reality.
Microsoft developes good software but in this instance is being very stubborn in not listening to the users and buyers. Both XP and Vista could be continued for sale and then it would be a win/win situation for both MS and the users. But, by paying no attention to the users or ignoring the requests for continued sales of a good product (XP) - Well its kinda a slap in the face to the users that like the product and a loss of sales that could be had. Also, it's like telling the user that he's ignorant and doesn't know what he/she needs or wants!!
Just because someone leads you down a path doesn't mean you should follow! It depends how reliable the guide is and still each should use their own judgement based on experiences and intuition.

Windows XP is indeed the finest OS from Microsoft but it has taken them years to get to this stage. Needless to say Vista is a resource hog and I dont appreciate every time M$ has a new OS and I have to upgrage if not totally replace my entire pc parts. What are our alternatives? Leopard, yes its a beautiful OS, wait, it only run on expensive Mac machines.. umm.. maybe later. Ubuntu? I think its matured enough for ppl to try and taste what linux can offer us, but its still a work in progress.. compatibility and user friendlyness (by that I mean via Windows experiences). So yeah.. the only downside of XP is its 64bits version is not quite stable yet with drivers and all. Sign.. there really is no perfect OS.. but are we really stuck with Vista.. please dont go there!
