And i gave up on Linux too many distros and i don't like the gui and even though its free i would still pay for windows because it just works. Not saying Linux does not work I am just saying that Windows is standardized. As much as you want to disagree with me on that. I actually prefer windows over Linux I can play my games and everything thats available on Linux is also available on windows.

I don't mind the free open source apps but the os?. No thanks i pass. I tried 4 type of distros Opensuse,Ubuntu,Fedora 9 and last but not least Linux mint. The only thing i like was the special jiggly effects and other cool effects. But to actually use it as my main os no thanks i pass. Linux will only be used in virtualbox or vmware and thats how far i will go with it. Somethings i like and somethings i don't like. Everyone has diffrent tastes.

And another thing. Thats why i don't deail with retail pc's anymore as what the above poster have said. they put soo much junk and sometimes comes with viruses. Now i am not saying having a custom built and having your own full windows disc will keep you safe from a virus attack. But at least you don't have to deal with all the bloatware that comes bundled with your newly purchased hp or gateway desktop orLaptop.

And yes i have heard about wine or cedega and i seen it in action but still it is not the same as native. I personally prefer games to be run on a native os. To me Linux is a fun os to play with as you can pretty much modify anything you want.

Well that was a naive statement: "it just works"

wow, you say you don't like Linux because there are too many distributions (read: possibilities)... too bad I don't have time to talk about all your stereotypical statements

Nothing "just works". Do you think that Microsoft even knows how to make even one driver work? Not really; they rely on some vendor to write their own code to the very core, or it will not work. That's stupid. Most of the hardware I have works in Linux without any need to get special driver from the vendor. That is only thanks to all who contributed (including both vendors and users) to the drivers for Linux that are in most cases a bit smarter than the dumb "hard coded" drivers written for Windows.

Don't like the GUI... which one? Are you aware that there is not a GUI called "Linux"? Are you aware that the one you saw is either outdated or is not realistically different from certain Windows GUIs?

You are forgetting couple of things. First of is windows is the gaming platform so to have drivers handed to you is not a good idea because i always update my drivers when i buy newer games.

Second Theres a program called vlite where you can add your drivers and make it in a way where once you install the os the drivers are there. But its really not a good idea because of what i stated before. Now before you start saying about wine and all that. Yes i heard about wine its close but no dice. Windows is in fact the best os to game on. Linux is well just linux for the anti paranoid people and maybe useful. While windows you can do that and play games. So i rather prefer for the os to not have the graphics drivers or any other drivers preinstalled because i will always be updating. And lastly i just made the jump from xp to vista 64 and i have no reason to keep xp anymore. All of my devices works and i can play all my games and it was painless too, and i can finally use all my 8gb of ram. And Thanks to Vlite i was able to "integrate" sp1 to the installation files. So now when i install the os i don't have to download and install sp1.

I will use linux in a virtual machine and thats it. Dualboot is becoming less necessary. As far as the os dazling effects goes ahh who cares. why would i care for a dazzling jiggly effects on a os where i can get the best bang effects in gaming =). And fact windows should be pioneering in the special effects space. Maybe because MS is not about dazzling os effects i duuno. But when you have the power of Directx Games really delivering the effects its just looks great. Especially Bioshock and crysis and COD 4. And that is why drivers in my system never stays static. I always update because newer games recommends that you update your drivers. With that said i would rather pay for what i get in return rather than getting something for free for less in return. Sorry i pass

And another thing The only driver i had to install after vista was installed was my sound and graphics drivers. The rest was pretty much there. So i beg to differ on "MS relying vendors" I have no problem with that at all

one question mariojp . . . . why did you have to slip stream your vista os ?

And Thanks to Vlite i
was able to "integrate" sp1 to the installation files. So now when i
install the os i don't have to download and install sp1.

perhaps vista is not that great if you have to spend your valuable time doing that lol

microsoft does not make any drivers for any perriphials . . . the device manufactures make them and then submit them ( after they pay a fee) to microsoft for certification

well i guess your time may not be that valuable if you can waste it on all the sercurity (virus and malware) scans and updates !

good luck everyone and take care
