Why on earth do you need Linux to find open source alternatives to commercial Windows applications.
Go to www.osalt.com and enjoy yourself!

Have you tried Gramps? Gramps

I haven't had first hand experience yet but I found that one when I do start. It might have most of the bells and whistles. that you require

Thanks for the article. I have recently downloaded Ubunto Linux on my pc using WUBI for the download. Very easy to download using this installer. I can see that the program suggestions in this article will help alot to find software that corresponds to Windows applications. Again thanks. Very timely.

Where is the equivalent of Streets and Trips, or Street Atlas, for Linux? It ain't!!! Than makes Linux totally unusable for me. Also, BTW, I have tried Open Office, and it is nothing compared to MS Office. I wish it was the other way around, but Open Office is unreliable, lacking in necessary features, and unusable for anything but the most trivial of applications. That is my personal experience.
