it would have been strange indeed for microsoft to "tout" 1080p resolution in the run up to the "console war" ... as the 360 wasn't capable of it until just recently.
actually M$ played down 1080p as too far ahead of the consumer to be useful.
i guess the "GamePro" staff doesn't spend much time following games.

Well it wasn't just recently that 360 got 1080p, it was around the PS3 launch IIRC, long time ago...

But yeah what game so far has been true 1080p, any of them?

What a nice way to try and cause panic! Rockstar said a while ago that BOTH the PS3 and 360 versions have a NATIVE resolution of 720p, but both upscale to 1080p. Who are these 'several outlets' who have proved it to be 640p? The only link above is to some amateur forum postings.
Has anyone actually proved the online problems yet? It seems to me like another blog entry which has been spread around like 'Chinese Whispers'. All it takes is for one persons Internet connection to go flakey, their firewall/router to block some ports, or their ISP to do 'traffic shaping' and suddenly the net is flooded with postings about 'loads of people not being able to play the game'. Nothings spreads faster than PS3 bashing.

If they did 1080p it would have killed the framerate on both systems.

I don't know what this article is talking about? My Sony Bravia plays the game in 1080p, granted, it's been upscaled, and I honestly don't have any complaints. My roommate owns the 360 and even he can agree that the PS3 version is a lot sharper than the 350's. As far as online multiplayer mode is concerned, the only time I had a problem logging on was on April 29th, but since April 30th, it's been nothing short of amazing! GTA IV LIFE ON PS3!

Xbox 360 is capable of 1080P and it has been for a long time. The Bioshock box (and many others) clearly states "1080P".

Searching for "GTAIV PS3 problem" gets 10,100,000 hits on Google.

Searching for "gtaiv xbox 360 problem" gets 2,400,000 hits.

It is happening and it happens more often on PS3.

Yep there's no denying there is a problem with the PS3 game sometimes locking up when trying to load. It has happened to me a few times now. But apparently it can be fixed by logging out of PSN before booting the game. After trying this it hasn't locked up since. I'm sure this will be fixed with a patch soon.
As for the graphics, upscaled or not it still looks pretty impressive on a 1080p TV. Besides the graphics aren't exactly the only groundbreaking thing to tout about here.

Well, then the posting should read something else... I haven't heard any PS3 owner have any problems whatsoever in regards to the resolution. Online issues? Well, I guess if you guys say so. But I have not experienced any problems with my online play. Do you think it may have to do with the PS3 itself? I mean, how much memory are you using? Again, I play GTA IV on 1080p and log in to the PSNetwork daily. No problems.

Well, just because you type in "GTA IV PS3 Problem" and you get all those results doesn't necessarily mean that it's true. You know there are a lot of false claims from Xbox fanboys that are posted, such as this one, which are not true. The headline on this post reads, "GTA IV on Sony PS3" and then it states that there is a "resolution problem". Now, if that isn't a bunch of BS, then I'd like to interest you in purchasing some beach front property... Listen, go and put a GTA IV disc in any PS3 system and set the settings on the PS3 to output 1080p. Hook the PS3 up to a HD monitor that is 1080p compatible and presto! You now have GTA IV on PS3 in HD 1080p.

Again, my roomate has the 360 and I have the PS3. We both agree that it looks just a bit sharper and crisper on the PS3, not by much, but it is noticeable. Needless to say, it is an awesome game, but you should not waste your time looking for the details between the two systems or you're only going to take away from the true marvel of the game itself.

The PS3 version of GTAIV is 640p which is upscaled to the higher resolution of 1080i or 1080p. The Xbox 360 version is 720p and gets upscaled too. This isn't a problem at all. However, PS3 fans made a big deal about how Halo 3 was running at 640p and getting upscaled. PS3 fans claimed only the superior PS3 was powerful enough to run 1080p. The PS3 at 640p and the Xbox 360 at 720p shows for some reason GTAIV is lower resolution on PS3. Like I stated earlier this wouldn't be an issue at all, but PS3 fans made it an issue.

There are PS3 fans out there experiencing problems with GTAIV whether you want to admit or not. There are lock up issues on Xbox 360 with GTAIV, but there are more problems on PS3. Madden plays at 30fps on PS3, but 60fps on Xbox 360. Of all the multi-platform games available the PS3 still has not produced a superior game.

Everything that happens on Xbox 360 is a big issue to PS3 fans. But when it happens on PS3 it is never a big thing?

That's my question!!! What is the lock up problem that the PS3 users have been experiencing?

If anything, I'm the only one that can go online and play the mulit-player mode on the PSNetwork... my roomate hasn't been able to log on to Xbox Live since the game came out (04.29.08).

I don't care what anyone says... the PS3 version of the game is a better looking game on the PS3. Both my roomate and I have HD TVs capable of 1080p, but mine is the only one the upscales to 1080p, his TV can only upscale it to 720p. So, what's that about?

P.S. I'm not a PS3 fanboy, I own both systems. I would only play Madden 08 on Xbox, because it's a lot fresher, crisper and faster! But the GTA IV, no matter what, will always be a PLAYSTATION thang! Recognize!!!

This is the article on Gamespot which describes the crazy "fix" recommended for the issue.

http://www.gamespot....ws/6190279.html

The fix is worse than the problem.

No fix yet.
