I have already spent the money on a stove, bar-b-que grill and some garden supplies for the season to come.

I already did it and I'm viewing this article on the result right now. When my PC died I built another with the help of the stimulus check.

Time to build up that character index. Ours will be going to replenish the hole left by that $2300 Cub Cadet Tractor we bought.

Hmmm; it's supposedly built in USA with a USA made Kohler engine and a USA made hydro xmission.

Better than spending it on Asian made electronics which I do way too much as it is. I've bought 3 notebooks and 2 desktops over the last 1.5 years and other un-needed crap. I like the stuff but it truly is un-needed. Nobody needs any of that kind of stuff; they want it.

What I would like to do is buy some Made in USA high end stereo gear (Pass, Aragon, Krell, Magnepan, Martin-Logan etc.) but that's beyond my means.

Steven Gray and Chris Manners are the only ones with any sense.

Pay your debt down FIRST. Then shop locally.

that is the smartest thing i have heard on this profile. that and investing the funds. reinvest to stimulate our economy first. wreckless spending wont get anyone out of debt. when they end up gonig broke they will end up pawning the stuff they bought.

@2weird: Agree on paying down debt first, but what about the freaks (like me) that don't do debt? I only buy what I can afford. I am glad that Steven and Chris said what they did, though. Someone had to.

@Flashhorn: no, you Canadians got off easy. Your money is worth more than mine at this point. want to trade?

@everyone: take some of that money and give it to someone who can really use it.

Don't start telling people what they should buy. Let them make their own decision. Coming from someone who owns both a 360 and PS3, I must say that the PS3 is by far the better buy. Most of the users out there telling people to get one console over the other are only doing so because they only own one, and not the other.

Premium 360 = $450. LIVE subscription = $50 per year TOTAL = $500

PS3 = $400 PSN = FREE for life OR PS3 80gb with MGS4 + DS3 = $500

If you add up exclusive titles on each console that are "must-own" quality, the PS3 is already ahead of the 360 and MS has had an extra year head-start. Not to mention down the road you don't need to keep paying $50 a year for the LIVE service.

The only exclusive 360 games I own that are worth it are Gears of War and Halo 3. Gears 2 later this year. That's about it for the 360.

PS3 : Heavenly Sword, Uncharted: Drakes Fortune, Motorstorm, Resistance: Fall of Man. MGS4 in about 2 weeks, Resistance 2 later this year. Little Big Planet.

I find it pretty comical that you start your post out by preaching to let said "people" make their own choices but then turn around and in the second sentence say that the PS3 is obviously the better buy. Can I have more hypocrisy please?
I too own both systems, and a nice gaming PC as well, there is little that slips by my gaming scopes, however I'd disagree. I think the Xbox 360 is a better buy. But of course this will be little more then an apples and oranges counter post. But we'll have a bit of fun.
For starters, let's look at Xbox Live and the PSN. Which has more users? XBL obviously. Which has more players on line at any given time? XBL again. Which is easier to use, navigate, and find items on? This would be more a matter of preference then anything but I'm still going to say XBL. Which is more ascetically appealing? Once again preference but I'm sticking with XBL. Which has constantly integrated chat in all online games, and in game dashboard (or XMB for those PS3 only users)? XBL for the win. When I look at the games side by side on the system, the Xbox 360 version always looks like the better buy simply because I know that if I get online to play there are going to be hundreds of thousands of other gamers with the same idea. When I pop in UT3 for my PS3 I end up with a handful of half empty servers with only the most hardcore of the hardcore still playing. So do I mind paying $50.00 a year for a premium service verses Sony's freebie? Not at all.
Your exclusive titles segment meant little to nothing. I can just as easily counter point that. Motorstorm was a mediocre game at best. MGS4 isn't out yet. Heavenly Sword was short and basically God of War with some different texture skins. Nothing ground breaking. Resistance is a great game on a bad system. Let's hear it for Sony's terrible controller when it comes to playing an FPS. Little Big Planet looks amazing, but once again, not out yet. I'm surprised Home didn't make that list too.
What about some of the 360's exclusives that you failed to mention? Mass Effect, Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, BioShock (Which may not remain an exclusive but regardless it's been out on the 360 for almost a year), Gears of War, Halo 3, GTA: IV's Downloadable Content (which is said to be rather massive in scale), Viva Piñata, or a handful of games that haven't been released that are "exclusives," such as Gears of War II. Playing the Exclusive card is an epic "phail." Once again it's all preference. If you have any love towards any type of FPS title the 360 shouldn't be a tough choice for you though, between the massive amount of players on XBL and the fact that the controller actually feels and works great with the genre, unlike Sony's bastard controller, it shouldn't be a hard choice.
If there was one thing that I'd give Sony, it's Blu-Ray. But my PS3 spends more time being just that rather then a game system. Oh well...
Isn't debating fun?

My husband plans to fly cross-country to attend his 50th high school reunion. If there are any monies left, we will use them (plus probably more) as we plan to fly to Las Vegas in the fall to enjoy dinner and a show to celebrate our 48th anniversary.
