Sorry, these were not "Hackers" that put these files out there. Please learn your terminoligy, or buy a dictionary if you're getting paid to put words into print or online. You only expose how uneducated you are by making blatent mistakes like these. So you don't press on in ignorance, here's the American Heritage Dictionary definition: Hacker -
# One who is proficient at using or programming a computer; a computer buff.
# One who uses programming skills to gain illegal access to a computer network or file.
# One who enthusiastically pursues a game or sport: a weekend tennis hacker.
None of those covers someone who purposefully misrepresents a file as something that it isn't (which in this case, would be a "trojan"), especially one which would be harmful. They haven't hacked into your system, YOU have, by running a program which you didn't know the origin of which doesn't do what it was claimed to do. No hacking involved.

One of my buddies used to operate a virtual server. He pulled down no
less than 2 gigs daily, and sometimes more than that. That's how I know
about this kinda stuff.
Limewire has always been a joke for files outside of music. Torrents are what people usually use for software/games/movies. It's a cycle: Warez servers : Torrents : DC and LimeWire. The crackers put the stuff on their warez servers, privilaged downloaders make torrents, and a few morons load up to Limewire.
No matter what people download, they should always virus scan it, but many people don't. I've had to fix a lot of friend's computers for that reason. Limewire has tons of viruses. I'd say at least 3/4 .exe files on there are viruses. Torrents are about 1/10. Good Warez servers will ban people if they upload stuff with viruses, and everything is checked.
