Hey, Glad to hear you were one of the lucky ones who made it through the Chosen Resevoir. That was a rough one to say the least. I had an uncle who was wounded on Pork Chop Hill on one tour. I ran into him in Vietnam when I got deployed in June '67. He had been wounded and was in a Hospital in Nha Trang when I was there. Thank You for your service, and I do agree with your statement. coastie65

Others commenting on this article have also noted that it didn't address other situations. For example, I used TaxCut and filed electronically, but owed a small amount of money ($114). I do all payments to the IRS through its EFTPS (Electronic Federal Tax Payment System) site. What bearing, if any, does that have on the rebate timing?
That aside, I couldn't help note that the article and many responses reflect the "entitlement mentality" that has all but destroyed the work ethic in this Country. The next thing we'll probably hear about is that some nut will sue the Government for not paying the rebate when the original schedule said it would! IMO, the government should never have issued the rebates. They are being paid from money it doesn't have; the rebates will just be added to the $9T+ National debt and will someday have to be paid by our heirs. When is the public going to wake up and understand that we are living a life style WAY beyond the ability of our economy to support it. The day of reckoning will come. . . and it's not a case of "if", but "when".

you are so right except on one point. it will be us & our heirs who will be strapped to pay this back.with the prediction of $10-$12 a gallon gas in the next year or 2 , I see our economy slipping into a near depression if not a full blown one. It is going to get real nasty before it gets better.we done this to ourselves by putting an oil barren in office for 8 years. and as for the give me give me people recieving the refund. a lot of these people don't pay any tax and recieve the earned credit and now this rebate. I am divorced and pay more of my wages than they earn yet they think I and the rest of the wage earners owe them a living.I am not refering to retired - disabled - sick. butt the LAZY NON WORK SEEKING PEOPLE. illegal imagrants etc, etc, etc. G4acre

OgieO - this is NOT free money or a govt. handout. Money for the tax rebate (for qualifying taxpayers) was yours, is yours, and you deserve it back. This is called a "tax rebate" and where do you think the money came from - YOU the tax payer. The rebate isn't "free" money nor is it money you never had. If you say the government is doing you a favor by giving you this money back then did it steal it from you in the first place.
I for one think the fewer tax dollars of mine that go to George Bush's Military Industrial Complex the better.

Concerning the following paragraph:
"At this writing, neither Intuit nor the IRS has clearly explained to me why people who paid their e-filing fees using a credit card haven't encountered the same headaches as people who had the e-file fee deducted from their refund."
Rest assured we (at least I) have experienced the same delay. I used Turbo Tax to file my 2007 return. Intuit debited my credit card on 4/11 for my filing fee. I went that route since I did not have a refund coming. Since I chose direct bank draft to pay the tax I owed, I also chose direct bank deposit for my rebate. As you probably have already guessed, the IRS only took THREE days to snatch the tax I owed from my bank account and I have yet to see my rebate.
I too am very disappointed with Intuit since I have used their product for years.

The economony is bad enough already, i can see why everyone is so frustrated. We do deserve to have some cash back from the government but you know everyone must wait in line for their money just like people in the line of Mcdonalds placing and reciveing their orders. No pushing or shoving here

I have an even more perplexing problem. Due to misinformation from my local IRS office, I filed a separate form for the stimulus check even tho I had filed my taxes through taxbrain.com. Now the IRS said too bad so sad but since there was a duplicate filing we don't get our check. i will have to wait until the denial letter comes in before ANYTHING can be done, if anything. Not only can't the local IRS office fix the problem but the 800 number can't either. I can't imagine where this country will be in the next century and I'm glad i won't be here. Any suggestions?

I found this out the hard way.
If you go to IRS website and search (not an easy search), you will find that if you owe the IRS money, used tax preparation software and paid electronically through your bank account, you are probably getting a paper check; not direct deposit.
The IRS gives an explanation that the 1040 has a spot that says if you are getting a refund, check here to have it deposited. Even if you are not getting a refund, if you didn't check that box, your stimulus check is being mailed; even if you provided them with your bank information so they could take their payment. Most tax software were designed so that if you owe the IRS, the program skips the portion of the form about having money directly deposited. If you used a tax program like myself and owed money, you could not check the box even if you wanted to.
Guess I am waiting for my paper check at the end of June...
