What they SHOULD do is cut the BLOAT out so Windows 7 will run well on the XP hardware requirements, instead of constantly increasing the size. If they would write the OS for EFFICIENCY instead of assuming that everyone will constantly increase their to match Microsoft's requirements.

And why would they weigh down what should/could be a NEW style of O/S with touch, and as mpheadley states how many people and manufactures have/manufactures have/produce touch screens.
I think Microsoft have LOST the plot.
What clients/users what is a NON VISTA operating system with a XP style of interface.

Touch screen interface is the future, MS is only trying to position Windows to be the os of choice for future touch screen applications. I read an article recently about the popularity of the iphone is increasing the demand for touch screens and I believe it. They're everywhere nowadays, in atm machines, retail stores, hotels and airports. It's only a matter of time when the price of ts's come down to the consumer level, beyond the little ones we see in cars, gps units and cell phones/pdas. I put a windows carputer in my car and wished it was easier to navigate using just touch. I agree with the discontent with Vista. I hate the idea of having to upgrade my hardware to meet the demands of an OS. Before, I thought XP was too bloated. It'll be interesting to see how MS will try to add more to an already bloated os. Maybe we'll see even more versions of windows released next time around.

It sounds like Win 7 is just Vista Fat. I bought into the rumor that Win 7 was going to be an different kernel than Vista. Crap. I guess I'll be holding onto XP as long as my aging hardware holds up, which I hope is for at least another 4-5 years, knock on wood. My sole experience with Vista was helping my brother-in-law set up his Vista laptop and that soured me on Vista. I just think it's a crappy OS. Maybe it's the "devil you know" thing but I prefer XP.

I just knew that Windows 7 would not be built upon a "new" kernal but using the same Vista Windows 2008 Server kernal and this really shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. Just think, if MS did design a new operating system and kernal, it would be another 5 years before we would see a release candidate out here.
Windows 7 really should be called Vista SE in any rate.

Haven't got Vista bugs worked out yet and on to another OS that will probably leave you longing for XP. If I want to use a touch screen I'll go use the ATM in the lobby. Microsoft needs to listen to input from it's users and stop forcing it's product changes on customers. It's not an update if you don't like or want it....
