Windows 7: The Story So Far

One of the perceptions about Vista is not helped when Dell are (or were) distributing faulty installations.
I had a new Inspiron 6400 that was really slow and flakey. In the end I gave up and installed XP. All was great until I suffered the known issue with XP and MS Office that makes clicked on Excel files take forever to load. So I put the Dell Vista OS CD in the drive and "upgraded" my XP and since then Vista has been fantastic !

Well I was hearing Windows 7 will look like windows vista but act like windows xp. Insted of it taking up all your ram and spitting it out when u need it it will act like xp were it barely takes up any and leaves the rest for everything else. Its hardware compatiblity will be like xp to so xp is still the future kinda.

hopefully people won't complain about windows 7 when it comes out (and please microsoft, change the name).
i don't care about hardware requirements or compatibility, too many people are slowing down progress by sticking with their outdated software/hardware, i wish windows 7 was a 64 bit OS only

Exactly, thats what Bill Gates said in a recent PC Mag article, "We can never have another Vista", so I think Windows 7 will be a good OS. Seeing all the compatibility problems Vista had, along with what Bill Gates said, I think we wont have to worry about compatibility all that much.

First, you have to think of this. Microsoft didn't get a gigantic company by releasing crappy products. Microsoft's been in the business for a long time and I think with all the issues Vista has brought up I would think they could make an almost perfect OS with virtually no compatibility issues. Microsoft won't go down this easy. Windows 7 will be the savior for Microsoft. MS is smart and knows what they're doing this time. Anyone who disagrees with me is just living in the past and needs to look into the future.

I for one, will jump and install Windows 7, provided that Microsoft brought back into Windows, Outlook Express with its Multiple Store Folders. I like saving my E-mails by Years. This way, I can switch Years rather than have to log off one's User ID and go into another User ID, just to go and read E-mails from another Year.
Of course, if Microsoft doesn't add that ability, then, why should I upgrade to Windows 7.
I am still running Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3.
Why change, when it is working for me?

I agree completely. I'll use XP as long as I can and as long as it does everything I need. But you don't have to let the lack of OE be the determining factor as to which operating system you use. I switched from OE to Incredimail a long time ago. :)

Incredimail is where? Does it convert Outlook Express Store Folders, as I have more than one Store Folder? That's the problem when using a new program. How does it handle attachments to messages?
Oh, Quote Original is located right before the Smiling Face. B-) at the top.;)

I finally figured out HOW to quote - it just didn't work right that time (not sure why).
Oh geez, it's been so long since I switched I don't remember the details, sorry. I don't have any Store Folders or I'd try it to see what happens.

Attachments appear as a paper clip icon at the top of the message. All you have to do is click on it to "detach." It will offer appropriate options based upon the type of attachment. Image attachments are usually shown in the message as well.
Incredimail can be downloaded from http://www.incredimail.com . While there is a "premium" version, the added features are trivial at best. Adding skins to change the appearance and previewing message headers before downloading are the only two I can think of.
(This time I had to edit because the link included the "While" for some reason)

And the editting messed up the quoting <sigh>.
It does that sometimes if you use Rich Text to edit. I have found that it is sometimes better to use Plain Text for such editting. It is easier to keep the quotation part and no quotation part from "smushing" together.
