I actually don't mind vista. Today i just installed vista 64 ultimate 0em version along side with windows XP or dualboot. And finally i can use my 8gb of ram because i skipped vista 32 and went to 64. With that said. It is solid and the performance just flies. And it actually boots up much quicker than xp does. So by the time this deadline hits. it won't impact me because vista got my seal of approval. and that the fact that all my 32bit apps works flawless on vista 64. Even the drivers no problem. And it is service pack 1 prepatched too.
And most importantly of all i can now see all my 8gb of ram with my quad core processor. And no if you guys thinking i making this up well i m going to stomp this once and for all. This is coming from my own personal experience.

Hey MPH, Sorry, I'm not trying to put a burr under your saddle, :D Just thought I'd throw in a final answer to Jim. coastie

Well...I dunno how that works. Vista costs more and a significant amount of money went into its investment. I think MS would be better off trying to market Vista and incerasing sales for it. No point marketing XP if it's going to kill off its younger brother.

ubuntu is slower on my comp and it takes alot of time to get drivers i have two ... almost three xp cds around ,despite what they say its going to be around for a long time, because the processors and memory dont magically double as they think in two years vista will be ready

Coastie65 said it all. When I, too, domy next custom builds, I'll be damed (not to say, "damned") if I'm getting stuck whith being forced to install Micro$oft's phenom bloatware & EDSEL extraordinary> At least Ford Motor Co. had tons of research and scientific surveys trying to produce a car the public really wanted and would clamor for.; so I apologize to Mr edsel Ford for the comparison to the covert spyware hidden in it Automatic Update (also "upgraded" to a CRITICAL update to snake through it system onto unsuspecting customers. Or the The pretentious and really stupid thinking that Microsoft customer are, indeed stupid enough to swallow the WGA bs coupled with the carrot and stick approach of "you don't get important updates unless Microsoft WGA forces okay you're not a crook and after a second check to "Validate" you're not a thief, again; you may the M$ boys will ALLOW you to download an update that should never have been witheld in the first place. I guess they did not get to see the news about Sony embedding copyright protection in its CDs. But thenMotion Picture CD/DVD do not advise the viewer of their copyright protection on every movie either9mostly Macrovision).
But mostly, I loved all those lovely nag screens. Boy this is one smart company that will bite off its nose to spite its face.I know I really trust 'em now and my confidence in their producing another Windows for Workgroups 3.11 or Windows 95 (with nice tight code and not this shotgun bloatware coding obsession) is noooot too high. The Penquin and its open source "amatures" will be a knocking at the Redmond "professionals" doors by then.
REMEMBER: It took only an amature to build The Arc; but, it took a gaggle of professionals to build the Titanic! Bon voyage,Vista

When it comes to musicians running Windows XP, they will have to stay with XP for the time being due to professional audio maufacturers not catching up with audio drivers, especially when it comes to 64-bit support and WaveRT support in Windows Vista when it comes to PCI/PCI Express.
If musicians were to build a new computer and buy Windows XP after June 30th, they'll be out of luck.
It will take some time for pro audio manufacturers to test their sound cards with Windows Vista 32-/64-bit.

Windows XP is ultimately the only good operating and safest one around, compared to the lousy hype with Windows Vista where very few security software such as antivirus and firewall and antisppyware work, making it vulnerable to attacks, at least some places still sell xp machines, tho should be a optional upgrade to have vista and all current machines come installed with windows xp be it home, pro or media centre, and have the option to upgrade (tho recommend against it highly as totally unreliable) to vista, maybe MS's next OS will be a greater improvement to the disgrace of Vista, long live Windows XP, we love you so much and dont want you to go, listen bill gates, stop creating new shit, like the new office as well

I really dont know which corner of the world are you living in ?
Most of the anti-spy and anti-virus solutions are vista compatible. Infact most of them have transformed their GUI to match vista. btw - without any spyware and virus protection , vista is very much safer to use than Xp. Its a known and proven fact.
