Lol first to rate first to comment. PS3 has the best Blu-ray any Father can love. PS3 for Blu-ray; Xbox 360 Elite for a trustable gaming system.

The Microsoft Xbox 360 is overall a better gaming console. Now is better than ever to buy one, the prices have dropped, the games are better and the online is the best (live). Overall the Xbox 360 is the better bargain.

If game consoles want to get serious about networking, they need to set it up to allow third party servers. In so doing, it could also be designed in such a way that owners of Sony hardware could play along with owners of Microsoft hardware against owners of Nintendo hardware.
Yeah, I know there are plenty of hardware differences. That's what the client software is designed to take advantage of.

It's funny to see the XBOXER'S still hanging on promoting their system as the one. It's over . Lots of good times to be had with the XBOX if you can't manage to aquire a PS3 but....... IT'S OVER ....

Dude you are totally contradicting yourself. I could easily say that ITS over and xbox has won. You buy a gaming console for its games, xbox still does have the better games. PS3 is catching up. Live is still better than that of PS3 ONLINE, You do have the advantage of Blu-ray no doubt about that. Stop being such a fanboy.

The Playstation 3 is the best console on the market, no doubt. People kept saying Xbox 360 is the best. It's not. The PS3 has everything that you have to buy as option for the Xbox 360. Just wait and see that the PS3 will have more exclusive games than Xbox 360 in the next one or two years. With the PS3, you can watch Blu-ray movies, which look elegant on a 1080p High-Definition TV. There is nothing to argue. The Playstation 3 is the best console without a doubt.

Here are the over used Xbox 360 arguements and there counters:
1.) Xbox has more games and units sold

-Xbox was released one year before the Playstation. The fact that the PS3 is catching up goes to show that people are realizing the PS3's potential. Also one year is also a fair amount of time to produce more games. Whether these games are any good are debateable. Also lots of games are cross platorm. Also the PS3's exclusive titles are better then the 360's exclusives.

2.) Xbox has a better online world

-First off you pay for this online world, whereas the PS3 you dont. Perhaps the 360's online world is better but is it $60 better? Also the PS3's online world is improving. With the advent of home coming out, the better 360 online experience will finally be put to rest.

3.) PS3 is too expensive:

- is it really? The standard 360 comes with a 20gb hardrive, no wireless, +$60 (online) retail price $350. The PS3 includes wireless, BLU-RAY, 40GB hardrive, no fee online retail price of $399. Does saving 50 bucks justify the amount you are missing out?

More arguements for a PS3

The PS3 is far more superior techologically then the xbox 360. Sure games look the same now, but when game graphics grow, and physics engines need more power, the PS3 will be able to handle it with its POWERFULL 8X Cell Processor and blu-ray capacity, whereas Microsoft will be looking to make a new console. The Ps3 is future proof.

There are more advantages to the PS3 then the xbox. the only reason why the 360 fan boys refuse to give up is because they do not want to resent their purchase and secrelty know they should have invested in a PS3.

Thank You.

PS: The ps3 can output at 1080p, whereas the 360 can output only at 720p.

moiza67,
you PS is wrong, the XBOX 360 DOES output 1080p for its games just like the PS3

also, the DVD upscaler in the XBOX360 bumps up all DVDs to 1080i, which is virtually indescernable from 1080p, add on the fact that DVDs are $5 to $7 and Bluray discs are $20 to $25, and you can see why the Bluray feature isn't eactly making PS3s fly off the shelves (in fact Blu ray discs are selling very poorly overall)

finally, my roomates and I own both boxes so don't label me as a fanboy, but in all fairness we play the XBOX 360 5x more often...just saying

Interest. Is he going to be interested in what any game console has to offer? If so, get him one. If not, this article is nothing but advertisement for the Sony Corp. And considering the Wii probably has more relevance and application for the older Dad whose offspring can actually AFFORD a POS3 (Typo kept intentionally), making him keep his couch potato ways by watching Blu-Ray all day will only get you a bit closer to that inheritance you've been waiting for all these years. Yeah, there's a GREAT incentive for getting a gaming console as a Father's Day present. Make sure dear ol' Dad dies a lot faster. What a dumb article.

I guess it all depends on what Dad wants. If he wants a kitchy, trendy, casual system, get the Wii. If he wants a Blue-Ray DVD player, get the PS3. If he wants to actually play games, get an Xbox 360.
As much as PS3 owners hate to admit it, the Xbox 360 is the better system at this point. That's not to say that the PS3 won't surpass it in the future, but right now it's better. The Wii is far far ahead of both of them in sales...but that's because it's not so much a gaming console as it is a toy. I own a Wii myself and it's certainly entertaining, but it's not what I turn to when I want to do some serious gaming.

And I hate it when people use the excuse that "The Xbox 360 was out a year before the PS3, that's the only reason blah blah blah". Yes it was out a year earlier, and bravo to MS for doing that. I was playing Xbox games happily for a full year before anyone could even play PS3 games. That was part of their strategy, and it worked. Don't use it as a crutch for the PS3's lackluster performance, because it's not valid.

Along with that, the Xbox 360 DOES have a better online environment. And yes, in my opinion, it is worth the $60 per year ($5 a month) for that service. It's just head and shoulders above either of the other system's online capabilities. Maybe PS3 will have a chance to shake it when "Home" comes out...but that's been delayed how many times now?

The PS3 does have the superior technology, and in time it may actually make use of it. But right now, most cross-platform games look BETTER on the 360 than they do on the PS3 (see gamespot's comparison here: www.gamespot.com/features/6191251/index.html). And on top of that, I think the 360 has better exclusives as well. MGS4 is a great boon for the PS3, and will surely help the console grow. But that and Killzone 2 are the only exclusives I can even think of that make the console worth buying. So I don't think buying a console to play 2 games (1 which isn't even out yet) is justifiable.

Oh and as for Blue-Ray...it will be a close race, but I still think online digital distribution (eg. Apple TV, Netflix's new box, etc) will surpass it before it can get too far.

I have an XBox 360 and a PS3. My PS3 is a dust collector. The games come out way after they are already on the XBOX. You can only use a PS3 remote control (sold seperately) to control the PS3 when watching a BR movie since it only accepts bluetooth signals. On the good sid I do let it run Folding at Home so its probably doing someone some good.

I haven't touched it in 6 months, maybe even a year.

Have you lost your mind. The Sony controller also uses a blue tooth signal. YOU DO NOT have to purchase a seperate remote to control a Blu- Ray movie. Stop posting false lies. As far as games coming out later goes, I will give you that one. However as of now, games are coming out at the same time. You claim that the PS3 has been sitting in the dust and you only use ur xbox. Thats fine, but please dont use it as an argument as to why the 360 is superior to the ps3. Thats like saying, I use a type writer more then a word processor. Just by use does not make one better. Personally I bought a ps3 because more of my friends have it, so I can play with them online.

At this point I am going to take a neutral tone. It does not matter what you buy, in the end you will be happy. The ps3 is a complete package, and the xbox 360 is a gamers delight. Both have HD graphics, both have a good online component, both can be used as media streamersetc....

I think what will happen is, both consoles will continue to be popular, and developers will make more cross-platform games (so they can tap into both markets) instead of exclusives, in the end it is the end user who has to weigh the pros and cons of both systems. Boths systems have their pro's and con's. Even if you are a fanboy and say that one console not flawed at all, then I cant help u see reason. All we can hope for is that the shortcomings of our respective consoles are made better by their respective companies.

The only difference is, Blu-Ray (PS3), more games (xbox 360). You choose?

I have to say I don't usually reply to these things, but I have a few issues with some of your statements. First, I would like to say that if on average you are buying DVDs for $5 to $7 please send me a catalog to the store you shop from. Only older overstock movies sell that cheap, or movies that nobody wants anymore anyway. Yeah, blu ray is more expensive. But the same could be said for DVDs when they first came on the scene. hell, a VHS tape was impossible to buy in stores on up till the late 80s. You had to special order them and they costed anywhere from $75 to $100!!! And if you think upscaling DVD to 1080i (and it's not true 1080i by the way) looks "indecernable" to blu ray then my friend, you need to upgrade your TV. I have a PS3 and DVDs look great on my TV. (JVC, 1080P capability) But blu ray discs are just as much an advance over DVD as DVD was over VHS, as far as picture quality goes. The picture is WAY sharper and more vibrant with color, sometimes disturbingly so. And to say blu ray isn't selling well, well that's just downright false. Are they selling as many blu rays as DVDs right now? No. It would be rediculous for anyone to think it possilbly could, what with DVD being on the market for 10 years now and millions upon millions of homes have a DVD player. But a report just came out last week that matter of factly states that blu ray sells are out pacing what DVDs sold at the same point of it's life where blu ray is now, and by a healthy margin I might add. Look the report up on the internet, you will find it. And I might add a bit of advice. Before you make statements that sound as if you're stating a fact you may want to know what the facts are first... Just saying...

P.S. Xbox is a great maching. But it's already run through most of it's exclusive titles and PS3 has barely touched on their back catalog. PS3 outsold 360 again this past month and that's all without the back catalog. When they do tap into it 360 sales are going to plummet.

First off I am A dad. I am not a fan boy I had an xbox till 2 years ago. I have a few ps2's in my house becauce I can buy broken ones and fix them, I tryed that with xboxs but not a big market out there for them. I have play over 30 hours on both systems. The ps3 works for most people I only know 2 people over 24 with a xbox360 no one over 28. The dads that had the 360 dumped them and got the ps3. the big thing to piss them off was all the extras that the 360 did not have that you had to go out and buy.

Great points you made. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that today's average gamer age is 35 years old. (I'm 34) We grew up in the video game age and it stuck with us. So we recognize the superior hardware when it comes about. I had a PS1 and PS2 while I was in the army. When you're deployed it's a great way to spend time. Over the years I bought many games and my thought going into the PS3 launch was why would I buy another system and have to hook up 2 or 3 concoles to my TV? I have the 80G PS3 and despite the fact that it's not "fully backward compatible" I've had no trouble at all playing my PS1 or PS2 games. I didn't consider myself a "fanboy" either. I hate the term. But seeing how defensive people get over their machine of choice it's hard not to take sides. I haven't had to add anything on my PS3 to get the functions I wanted. I set my machine up in my living room out of the box, programmed it through my wireless router, and I was online in no time. Every month or two I get a firmware update and I always look forward to them to see what new cool stuff I'll have, like the upgrade in sound that just came out a few weeks ago. (Very few blu ray players on the market now have 7.1 capabilities. PS3 does) I think Sony made some good decisions in designing the PS3. I think they looked way farther into the future than any other console producer ever has and I believe in the long run there will be more life in the PS3 cycle than the 360 or Wii. I'm not knocking the others, but PS3 is serious harware and real gamers know this. I wouldn't trade my PS3 for anything...

Ok, now that we've pretty much exhausted the pros and cons of PS3 & Xbox360, which one of those PS3's has backwards compatibility with the PS2 ? coastie

Costie the 60 gb works the best it is a ps3 with a ps2 in it. it uses hard whare to play ps2 games. the 80 gb units play them to but they use software to play the games and can have issues with some ps2 games. I my self am waiting a few more months to speen my cash on a ps3 when I do I will be getting an 80 gb or a used 60 gb. you also might want to look at the psp slim which looks great on my flat screen (the cable is 20 bucks to go to the tv).
