so, the DVD upscaler in the XBOX360 bumps up all DVDs to 1080i, which is virtually indescernable from 1080p
That is complete rubish. Unless your comparing hd-dvd vs blu-ray 1080i vs 1080p might not be as noticable, but upconverterted dvds vs a blu-ray or hd-dvd is a BIG DIFFERENCE. Of course you need the proper tv to tell.
My friend has a 360-with component cables- with a plasma tv(no VGA out) M$ screwed him by not equiping his 360 with hdmi so he's not going to be able to upconvert squat on his 360.

Razenyc-
removed you'll want to enjoy some of the finer things in life that a pc doesn't offer. Things like HD-DTS MA, Uncompressed PCM, Dolby TruHD. 7.1 speaker systems. I know it's a lot to comprehend....removed their are millions of what we Men call audiophiles and videophiles. Those that appreciate the finer capabilities in technology in respect to video and audio. If you took a second to do any of your research on downloadable content you'd realize that all you're really able to get is some shabby 720p; or another compressed picture with more compressed sound worse than some dvds. Those of us that have more than a 17inch 2.1 system understand that. We are not the majority that watch CRTs. It's a mans' world son...

wow thanks for removing my post, nothing like free speech, lol, wow, anyway in simple terms, xbox always breaks,so if you shipping stuff off then buy one,ps3 is rock steady plus it's nice to play on line free!!!!!!!!!,so much for free speech
I would suggest that you review the [d-1000]. If you violate them with the content of your posts in the forum, then action will be taken. If you have issues with those Community Standards or actions take due to apparent violations, feel free to discuss then with [~2001], PCWorld's Online Community Manager.
I will note that when you post on a site that is owned by someone else, you lose some free speech rights. And PCWorld is not really restricting your free speech, they are merely place constraints on the use of the platform that THEY provide. You are 100% free to find another platform (whether one that you have to supply and pay for or one that someone else supplies but has less contraints) and re-post exactly what you posted before, thus exercising your free speech rights still.

And if I may add to what SMax stated, in any circumstance, when a post is either edited or removed, one of the Member Moderators would make some sort of comment in either the post or the Discussion itself indicating that there was a change. I do not see anything like that here. As SMax stated, if you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact any one of the Member Moderators (SMax, AuroraDizon, and myself) or Kellie, the PCWorld Community Manager.

Using the Blu-Ray reasoning for the PS3 doesn't work for me. I know absolutely NOBODY that buys Blu-Ray movies. At $30-40 a pop, Blu-Ray isn't going to make it far. Digital Downloads are the future and BR's lifespan is not going to be very long.
Also, don't whine about $50 for an entire year of play on Xbox Live, I hope it NEVER goes free, because paying a small amount like that (less than $5 a month, are you kidding me?) helps weed out a lot of idiots and kids. There's already too many idiots playing online, having the service free would be chaos.
Also, I'm 35 and a father of 2. I do not know a single person that has a PS3 that is my age, however, I know probably 15 people that have 360s. Don't even try to say nobody over 28 or whatever plays it, you've got to be completely clueless to even assume that.
Hardware wise I agree the PS3 is superior. I could see buying one in another year, maybe.

this weekend my friend let me use his pa3 and about 20 blu-ray movies he has. I have to say now that I have had even more play time with the ps3:
! there is no point buying a stand alone player at there cost right now where they are going to need to be updated at some point for new disk formats.
2 the joystick and the blue tooth remote both workfine.
3 the up scale was great but hd movies still look a lot better the uped dvds.
4 at 780i motor storm still rocked (I hope when they make motor storm 2 it is 1080p)
5 My friend that had an xbox360 just traded in for the ps3 after an hour of playing on it.
6 my psp worked great with the ps3
can't wait for july when i may have the cash to get my own.

Legal Lad recently did a podcast on how "free speech" has no legal weight in a situation like this. I suggest you check it out.

The BD excuse is very valid. Anyone who has seen a BD movie played on a true 1080P set understands that the difference between it and an upconverted DVD is HUGE. Blu-ray is also all I will buy now. Amazon has deals every day and the movie prices are pretty in line, sometimes cheaper than DVD. I do however have a 400+ DVD collection so the initial reaction to a new format didnt sit well with me at first. Once I saw and heard the difference there was no going back. My 50 something father even bought one for BD playback and the Media funtionality. He now plays games as well.

Fortunately, your 400+ DVD colection is not dead in the water as the player will upconvert. I am 62 as of today, and am considering a PS3. I will need one that is backwards compatible with PS2 so I can play those games as well. I bought an adapter for my Nephew to transfer his PS2 save games from the memory card to the HD on his PS3, so I guess he'll let me use it. :D coastie65
