Why do you get upset about Vista?? If you don't like it, don't upgrade. I still have a Win98 box that works as good now as when I built it.
Using Vista Instead of XP Is Dumb

I LIKE VISTA.
It took me a couple of hours to catch on to how the software designers were thinking when they created this one, but once I did, I caught on quick. Only problem is, when I send a Word doc to friends, I have to make sure it's saved in an earlier version. Oh, well, can't have everything right at the beginning of any OS, I guess.
Fortunately, I kept my older computer with the XP OS on it so I could run older versions of QuickBooks and Quicken (I do bookkeeping for a living), but both computers are on a local network and I'm ambidextrous, so everything works out just fine.

I tried using the older versions of Quicken and Quick Books when I first got Vista, but none of them would load. Newest versions (2008) work OK. That's one of the main reasons I kept the XP laptop instead of giving it to my son. And until I can get all of my clients to use the latest versions of QB and Quicken, I am resigned to using the older XP OS as all updated work I put back on their computers has to be compatible with their version. Maybe I should try loading the older versions in again now that I have all the Vista updates. Perhaps they will be usable after all. Will give it a try. I'll call Vista Tech Support again today -- they had previously told me these wouldn't work on Vista. Maybe they've changed their story now. I hope so sighhhhhh.

I loaded Quicken 2006 on a Vista upgrade and it ran fine except for the cash register ka-chine on entering a transaction. But when I installed it on a new computer build everything works fine. Of course it did go out to Inuit and got the updates, so perhaps it was in one of those and my first install on Vista was in May, 2007.
I cannot speak to Quickbooks (any version) as I do not use it, nor to older versions of Quicken.

You're riight. I do recall that Quicken 2006 -- with some work-arounds -- might have worked, but my main reason for keeping the XP was for the earlier versions of QuickBooks. That proved to be the real problem program -- and it's the one most of my clients use (from 2005 thru 2007) so I've had to keep the XP primarily for those. I'm doing my best to coax all of them on to the QuickBooks online version. It's far and away my favorite for all concerned. It doesn't give a hoot what you have loaded on your poor old local computer LOL

It's all about change and how people dislike anything that changes the way they do things. Vista securiy is better, the graphics are better, and the options of use are better; this is all plain to see. I cannot wait till xp is dead and we can go on to the future. There will be somethng new in the future that will replace vista and then we can all bitch about that, saying, "ain't that awful.":_|
