Hello Awhinden,
Just wanted to offer my two cents on the directional bass debate.
The frequencies produced by a subwoofer (<100Hz) are not directional. What makes them sound directional are the higher frequencies associated with the particular sound. If the noise of a train sounds directional, it will be the >100Hz components of that sound (handled by stereo speakers) making it so. Please see link for further info.

Also, I have found that using a subwoofer for low frequencies improved the mid range of my system - maybe the stereo amp performed better without having to supply the large current required for low frequencies.

Playstation 3 is the best Blu-ray player on the planet. End of story.
I had never given much thought to the PS3 as a BluRay player until I bought one. I was out at the Walmart and saw the remote for the thing and bought it. It IS a full blown BluRay player as well as a game console. I have a Samsung upconvert 1080p DVD player / recorder - VHS combo hooked up by way of HDMI. It does a tremendous job of upconverting SD DVD's. I haven't tried the PS3 as yet for movies to compare it with the Samsung. coastie65

You need to chill out. Having all videos under one format cuts costs for the player makers. Besides, Blu-Ray is still relatively new. Just like the first DVD, it's taking time for Blu-Ray technology to cheapen.
In the meantime...note that Sony collects no more than $10-$15 in royalty payments on each Blu-Ray player manufactured by other companies. Relax.

I agree with "slider9499",
the reason Sony pushed their Blu-ray "boobs" onto the movie executives faces was not to sell more BR players, their main agenda was to sell as many PS3 as possible. I for one am waiting for the Christmas discounts, price drop on the PS3. It is the complete hi-def entertainment device for the ordinary home user..GAMES...BLURAY...INTERNET.
