Good article!
I have found that the registry pretty much needs ongoing care and maintenance. I use two registry tools which, by the way, is a good idea, most registry tools attack specific areas.
The two that I use are Registry Mechanic by PC Tools and Registry Optimizer by WinASO. They both have additional tools and give a severity level and options as to what you can do with the entry. Both also have a restore point option and reg. defrag.

I would like to recommend RegistryCleaner by PC-Kitchen:
http://www.pc-kitchen.com
It worked quite well for me on a number of occasions removing odd startup messages that i was receiving.
I am waiting to see what else this company comes out with.

I have to agree with mightycasey, there are a lot of other things that can be done to speed up your PC. The best way I know to screw up your PC is get into the registry, when you don't know the real reason you're there.
Try taking a look at temp files and cookies. The good registry cleaner programs will tell you that if you don't fully understand the registry you might be well advised to take it to someone who does.
Most of the cleaners concentrate on specific areas of the registry, and will not clean all of the footprints left by discarded programs. So unless you regularly install and uninstall programs or know what you're doing, don't mess with it. Unless you like reinstalling your OS.

64 bit Vista is not supported by null/downloads/file/fid,22770-order,1-page,1-c,systemresourcestuneup/description.html, it is only 32 bit.
Which of these registry clears work with 64 bit?
