operas a memory hog with one tab open.......150 to 180K rediculously too high
Opera is one of the lightest browser as far as memory consumption is considered . At this time with one tab i have 23k usage and with 10 tabs opening the usage is 83k . Firefox with same one page takes 47k.
A screenshot of the same .

In the beginning, IE8 gave you the choice of using the IE8 you down loaded or to select the emulate IE7 to let you work incase some the sited programs whatever were not compatible with the new IE8.. Since Beta 2 release that option has been taken away.
At the time of beta1 , many sites were not compatible with IE8 and the build wasnt very stable. The beta 2 is a lot more stable and site compatibility is no more a problem. I believe this is the reason why emulate IE7 option has been dropped.

I think the whole idea of Google Chrome vs. IE8 is a bit of an oxymoron. You can only use the vs. when comparing items, even if one greatly outweighs the other, but in this case there is no comparison! Don't get me wrong, I love M$ and have been using IE up through all the different releases. I use it because it has always been something I could fall back on when all else failed. But please, when talking of speed, IE8 is an elephant and Google Chrome is a humming bird. IE8 will, like all of its forefathers become more stable and fast as time goes by, but lets be real about "vs."!

IE8 beta 2 still gives you a compatibility mode to help out with older pages, its in the address bar.
I have tried them all and still come back to Opera but at the end of the day if a particular site is a pig we will all have to drop back down to IE to view it.
Opera is my Porsche GT3 but occasionaly i need to take the IE stationwagon to work
Chrome is a nice looking browser and speedy too, cant wait until peeps start adding mouse gestures for a better comparison

Whoever sez that Firefox is slow is crazy. Maybe they do not understand about:config. There is even a program that tunes Firefox for you - Firetune. Between the two (Firetune and about:config) nothing compares to F F in the speed Department. Chrome is a close second. Opera looks cool and I really wanted Opera as my browser, but the performance sucked. IE8 is OK I guess. I'd rather use Chrome. But I know a lot of people who like IE8 just because it is what they are used to. They do not care if it leaves gobs of temporary files on their computer. Let me close this FF and go scour the internals of IE8 to assess further. Opera is not allowed back into my computer. Neither is Safari. Chrome is so new it still looks good. It might flake off over time.
