Yes, the Web 2.0 buzzword is done, "social media" now in its place, less intimidating and more likely to seduce PR/marketing/business people.
I can relate to what you're saying. You can slice and dice the same data so many ways now, only a few hardcore startup followers have all the implementations on the tip of their tongue, to the point where you see multiple startups solving the same non-problem, unaware a solution is already out there.
If you troll Techmeme.com for a while, at some point you realize everyone wants user-generated content monetized w/ Adsense. Well, however boring, it's a formula that works. Google makes billions from these ads. I wouldn't conclude much looking at Facebook, they're just one website.
