I'm one of those guys that ran Ethernet throughout my house 10 years ago, waiting for the Electronic Industry to catch up. It took about 5 years to find the right Media Player, it was the Buffalo Link Theater DVD Player, it has software and an Ethernet connection. So for about 5 years I have been streaming DVD quality Video from my PC and Server. I'm glad that you are excited about this MediaGate, unless you connect to the Cat5 Port you might get some good streams, but Wireless will never cut it. Now I'm waiting for Buffalo to come out with a BluRay Media Player, no other Company will even come close.

The only thing I don't like is trusting something that is Free, especially with Torrents. You really have to rely on your Anti-Virus and Anti-Everything when you are dealing with downloads with Torrents.

Yes it is a bit more expensive but purports to convert your computer output to an hdtv cable signal that can plug into every tv you have. Claims also to give you control over your computer from a remote. Internet movies, browsing etc... http://www.zeevee.com/

Hi,i was reading the article about getting tv shows on a pc,i am hooked up to comcast cable and was looking at doing
the same thing people on this discussion
i thought i could split cable before it
goes into my box then run cable to back of pc,then download shows straight from
cable,the only thing i have to do is to
install tv in tv out card,i have nvidia
gs7300 card now,2mb of ram,2.2ghz,amd64
athlon 3500 processor,thank's

This sounds like a great device. Is there something similar for TiVo, which would allow me to operate the box and watch recorded programs from a remote TV?

I watch movies on my HDTV too but for a lot less than the setup cost of this method. I purchased a VGA splitter and and two cables: VGA to HDMI and VGA to VGA. As I recall the splitter costs about $35 and the two cables $20. I rewired my existing computer monitor cable to the splitter. The VGA to HDMI cable goes from the splitter to the TV and the VGA to VGA cable goes from the computer to the splitter. It works fine. Of course my TV is nearby the computer and that may be a consideration for some.

WDTV is MUCH better - and is only $99.
It allows you to use any external HD or flash drive to view high-def movies, clips or photographs and listen to your Mp3 collection.
We shuttle programs and youtube via thumb drives.. while keeping our photos and favorite movies on the hard drive.
