I use Google GMAIL and it really annoys me that whenever a web site has a "mailto" entry, windows mail ALWAYS comes up. I have deleted windows mail and set my default mail to gmail, but it still comes up with windows mail. Some sites do come up with my gmail. How can I fix this?

Actually, I don't think you can set gmail (or any other Web mail) as your "default email client". Windows wants a "local" email program installed and running, to recognize it as default. My suggestion would be to set up your ISP's email address in Windows Mail (or Outlook Express), then forward your gmail to your local client, so you can use your gmail account on your local pc. Of course, the tricky part is when you use other computers (like at work), you'll have to use Web mail only, unless your ISP offers free Web mail access to your local account. Sometimes a juggling act...

I use a local email client (Thinderbird is my preference)... but you want to set up just the outbound POP server and put a dummy name on the inbound side. Just use the Compose portion and send email out thru your gmail account. More private and keeps your email at the ISP
