PS3 is already by far and away the best VALUE. It may not be the CHEAPEST, but it's about VALUE.
As I see it these are your options.
The cheap and very last-gen Wii.
The cheap, unreliable and feature cripped 360 Arcade.
The expensive, unreliable and Blu-ray/Wifi less 360 Elite.
The expensive, reliable and feature complete PS3.
It's a no brainer, PS3 wins every time.

Just because the 360 doesnt have blu ray doesnt mean you CANT watch blu ray on it. Hook up your 360 as a media extender to your Vista PC and boom. You can watch blu ray dvds from your computer. 360 has alot more value to families(Media center, look at pictures on big TV) and kids/teens(Halo 3, Gears). The 360 also already has a big following.

Alot more? You name 2, and it's the same 2 games that every 360 bleats on about. The PS3 has a much more varied selection of games, and the exclusives are considerably better.
It also sounds like you have no idea what the PS3 is actually capable of as a mediacentre, as it can do everything the 360 can do, and a whole lot more.
As for the 360 having a big following, it's actually not that big, it's behind the PS3 in Europe and Japan, and about 3m short in USA. That's a pretty small amount, considering the 12month/18month headstart Xbox had due to it's premature launch.

I feed my HD home videos from Vista via the PS3 and it works OK, but the quality is no where near a real blu-ray disk playing in the PS3.
The PS3 is an amazing bargain when you look at everything you get. I own 2 of them. The PS3 is a very superior piece of hardware to the XBox 360 and Sony knows this and isn't going to cave. It's similar to sony tv's costing more than the cheap chinese brands. You get what you pay for.

Wake, Banjo 3, Fable II, Too Human, Splinter Cell Conviction.
I know a decent amount of people that own a PS3 and regret buying it. Out of all my friends. I have to say out of the ones that own a modern console(360, PS3, wii) 95% own a 360 with the other 5% owning the others. Im not here to say one of them is better than the other. But alot of people do get the 360 because of Gears and Halo.

But, while I do not agree that sony will get clobbered this season, I do think it is still a bad move to take out BC for the newer models. The 160bg version should have software BC, and it should be bundled with newer games.

I own both consoles, but I am becoming increasingly tired of my 360, it's loud, unreliable, and I don't like paying $80 a year to play online when my PS3 offfers the same for free. these days 80% of my purchases are PS3, and only the 360 titles than don't come out on PC are what gets the 360 time. I would sell the 360, but the second hand prices are so low due to RROD problems.
I really feel the only thing holding the 360 together right now, is the hardcore 360 gaming community that's can't afford (or don't want) to pickup a PS3, for new owners, unless all their mates have 360's I think most will choose PS3, it's where all the great games (Gears2 aside) are this season.

Honestly, games are the top reason to own a console. So really, X-Box 360 is the better gaming value.
And all this crap about media bars and user interfaces is pointless. This is not a deciding factor in a console at all.

The PS3/360 dilemma's imminent for me, because I'll get one or the other around Christmas. Now that decent Blu-ray players cost 200, it's either a PS3 or 360 Arcade and a Blu-Ray player; both will be around $400 total. No hard disk in the Arcade doesn't bother me much, because I game single player and sports, not online; plus most cross-platform games are designed primarily for the 360 and so perform slightly better on it. And the PS3 controller sucks - a far bigger factor than online capabilities! For gaming alone, the 360 wins for me. On the other hand, PS3 exclusives are slightly more compelling (if few), and its hardware quality seems better than the SD300 I'd otherwise get. For now I lean toward the "two-box" solution, but if the PS3 were 70 bucks cheaper...Now, fanboys, convince me!

1/ PS1 compatability (PS2 compatability rumoured to be coming in software "soon")
2/ Media streaming and meadi format support is vastly superior to anything a standalone BD player and the 360 can achive.
3/ Photo slideshows, might not sound a big deal, but slip the card from your camera in, and get a VERY stylish photoslideshow, with music from the HDD, extremely impressive.
4/ 7.1 audio. Most PS3 games support uncompressed 7.1 soundtracks, even on 5.1 system games like Uncharted sound like no other game you will have heard.
5/ Games. Sony own about 40 studios, all will be producing PS3 exclusives. Microsoft own 3. In short, you miss out on LOTs of exclusives on PS3 if you buy a 360, but if you buy a PS3, you basically miss out on Halo/Gears, thats really it. Take a look at both systems upcoming lineups, the PS3 one is vastly superior. Take a look at each platforms exclusives, the PS3 ones have always looked and played better. Multiplatforms are not a good way of telling what console is better (more games are being coded for PS3 these days, and ported to 360, things are changing fast in this aspect).
6/ Reliability/build quality. That $70 is worth the PS3's build quality alone, it's extremely well build, runs silent, nice slot loading CD/DVD/BD drive, that does not make any noise at all. The 360 is VERY LOUD, it's also VERY UNRELIABLE, and has a nasty looking power brick at the back.
7/controllers, I find the PS3 controller far better, it's also got rechargable batteries.
8/ HDMI 1.3 only PS3 has this.
9/ Arcade spec. No HDD, limited memory for saving stuff (the new 360 interface uses ALL of the available 256MB that the Arcade gives, meaning no game saves!!! (really!!!)
10/ Free online. These days it's as good as the XboxLive offering, without the monthly subscription charges.
The list is endless. The bottom line really is that the PS3 is a well build all rounder, with great media capabilities, great range of varied games (hardcore shooters and more mainstream titles like Buzz and Singstar), the 360 is a rather less reliable console, much rougher round the edges, and a very hardcore first person shooter gaming audience.
I would pick PS3 every day over all the other consoles, it's by far the best value for money, and as good, if not better than the 360 at gaming.

I agree with everyone about the ps3 being technically more powerfull than the 360. I have to agree... But is Sony or any of your other so called STudios making use of this Cell Processor? No... I only know one game that use the PS3 to its capacity i felt did a great job was Metal Gear Solid 4. I love that game. I dont think the 360 can ever handle a game like that one. But thats it.. We all know... Go to gamespot.. Ign... any console review their tell you.. 360 vs Ps3 hands down 360 wins..... Hello mark please when your going to list points.. .list the facts dont lie.... 360 controller batteries last way longer than the PS3 controller. we can go down the little things each system has... How about playing your music while your playing a game... PS3 still cant do that.. But yet its suppose to be this Next generation device..... and no there's no software emulation for ps2 games sony said no. It deals with hardware componants and unless you have that ps3 with 80 or 60 gigs.. Forget it..... Slide shows... cmon give me a break the 360 does that....and if you ask me the wii does it better than both of them.... streaming... give me a break the windows media center on the 360 is way more better hello you can watch tv on it. and record.... WTF......what ps3 can do that? Games... lets all be seriouse.. 360 has more exclusives all ps3 has is little big planet. 360 has gears halo fable tekken 6 final fantasy braid they got some of your exclusives.... devil may cry 4 grandtheft auto 4 soul calibur... I'd rather a 200 system that has alot of games to chose from than a 500 dollar system that has no games but yet is supposedly the future...... 10 minutes to download the demo 15 mins to install it..... wow...PS3 has so much useless things inside.... Its a shamme even the ps2 selling more than the ps3.... the nintendo ds sells more than the psp... sony is failling in all directions.. exploding batteries.....i can go on forever.... a lost of more than 200 per console.... the question is what can the Cell processor do for you.. because mine is at home sleeping.. and it been that way for days.months. BTW we did have the RROD issues when the system first came out... Most devices go thorugh their crap when it first launch but now thats all been fixed.. but when sony issued out firmwares that craps your system and turn it into a door stop... then you gotta ask your self.. .does geniouse over there know what their doing? Developers already knows what system is better they know who they want to make their games for.... it wont be long before blueray dies since they so damm expspensive just like the UMDS did.. another failure.....
